My journey from Atlanta to Houston was long. I had a short window to get to the
@menilcollection to see Basquiat’s A Next Loin And/Or, 1982 before I catch a flight out to LA. The good news is that I arrived on time to get to the museum. The bad news is the Basquiat painting has been put into storage. Here is the surprise, the museum attendant recommends that I go see the
@rothko_chapell down the street after I check out the whole museum. So on his advice I check out the museum in about 45 minutes. Excellent curation, I have to admit but after that I walked over to the gift store across the street to see if there were Basquiat books I did not have, then I walked down to the
@rothko_chapell and all I can say is wow to the power of three wow to the power of three. I have no personal pictures to show you because you’re not allowed photography once inside the
@menilcollection or the
@rothko_chapell but what I can tell you i spent an hour in deep thought and meditation. Somehow stumbling on this sacred space seems connected to seeing the #cadmium painting
@highmuseumofart In my own wisdom I would not have made the effort to be in the
@rothko_chapell Before I left I picked up the bible and it open on King’s And what strikes me in the three artist I have encountered Warhol, Basquiat and Rohko is how spiritual they were.
Here is a quotes that from the bible in King’s that my eyes fell on.
Praise be to the LORD, who has given rest to his people Israel just as he promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave through his servant Moses. - 1 Kings 8
Then I had to jump on a flight to LA. More about that tomorrow.
