The days of selling comics sure aren’t what they used to be. Rather than go down with the ship, BLAB! artist RYAN HESHKA has taken it upon himself to peddle his own homemade comics off of his site. HAIR WORLD COMICS is already two-thirds sold out of a sparse print run of 800 copies and it comes with a BONUS—a signed and numbered full-color poster. Fasten your seat belt, you're in for a ride.
BLAB! 16 cover by TIM BISKUP. I'll never forget when this original by Tim arrived in the mail. It bowled me over, so much so, I secured it for the BLAB! ARCHIVES. Then came the day when I needed some quick dough, and you all know the way that story goes.
Wrap-a-round cover by RYAN HESHKA, edited by yours truly.
"In Masterful Marks, top illustrators including DREW FRIEDMAN, NORA KRUG, RYAN HESHKA, and PETER KUPER, reveal how sixteen visionary cartoonists overcame massive financial, political, and personal challenges to create a new form of art that now defines our world." It was an honor working with editor ANJALI SINGH who picked up this project for Simon & Schuster. Available wherever books are sold.
This is a 1920s French advertising counter display for CHERRY ROCHER Liqueur (the tail of the bird is the stem of the cherry). It took forever to find one of these.
This is a rare FEATURE matchbook from Depression-era America. Matchbooks were once the mini-billboards of their time, before those gigantic roadway horrors took over. No one knew who these artists were. The other day when I was organizing a closet I opened a small box and there were several dozen smokin' examples, of which this was one.
