It’s easy to overcomplicate EQ when it comes to vocals, but sometimes a lot of tonal issues are resolved by other tools like compression! Here is my typical process for EQ on vocals!
Any additional EQ I might do is more on the creative side, maybe adding a little bit of midrange edge or high-end air where appropriate.

Here’s my approach to creating a shoegaze wall of sound without it all turning into muddy noise.
1. Crafting a foundation of textured rhythm guitars
2. Adding melodic arpeggios that add complexity and depth.
3. Adding a lead line to bring it all together.

It’s super fun to listen back to all the different versions of demos I made for my new song “Drift”! Honestly, I still like the vibe of a lot of the demos, but I’m super happy with how it evolved into the final track.
This is why I think the demo process is still so important. Finding the right tempo and arrangement is crucial to the final production so it’s important to experiment!
