GEORGE MARTIN: The Scores is our 10-year book set project. It's immense and you can finally see what took so long.
Each chapter has one original handwritten score - full size at 14" tall (it's a VERY big book set.)
There is an explanation of what this score is, historically and where it sits in relation to other things. Then many pages of analysis, showing you what the notes are doing. Orchestral textures, performance technique, studio changes made - we dig DEEP into every page. There are also references to outside music - either inspiration for George or parallels you might find in other pieces.
George was very excited back when we told him it could be educational - for those who don't read music, or for those who want to score films, or Beatles fans in general.
For several of the Beatles scores, we went into Abbey Road Studio Two and re-recorded the pieces. You get audio files with this set - not just the mixes but the individual tracks to play with - cello, room mics, viola, binaural head, Ball and Biscuit microphone, D19c. etc. You can listen along, make your own mixes, learn about the sounds of microphones and the room.
We also filmed those sessions, so there is video of each ensemble playing Eleanor Rigby etc in a multi-camera shoot.
Introduction by Sir Paul McCartney. Written contributions from Giles Martin, Wendy Carlos, Stewart Copeland, Danny Elfman, Kevin Howlett, and others.
This is DEFINITELY the hardest thing we've ever done, and by far, the biggest in size and scope. I suspect it will take most people weeks or even months to read through this. When you see this in-person (likely April, order now) it will become apparent how impeccable, original, and creative George Martin truly was. We were, of course, huge fans of George's work - but doing the book set brings this out even more - it's clear (looking behind the scenes) that his work does hold up to incredible scrutiny! #georgemartin #beatles #thebeatles #GilesMartin #WendyCarlos #StewartCopeland #DannyElfman #KevinHowlett
