NLCS 2000 — Shea Stadium — The Pennant Night
I was working in NYC at Yahoo!.
At 4:30pm, I get a call from my old friend Chris Urcioli who had corporate tickets and asked if I wanted to come.
Though a Yankees fan from day one, this was history sitting right there… and I jumped on the train and met Chris.
When the Mets clinched and were going to the World Series…
People were stomping the ground so hard I thought the stadium was going to collapse.
Not exaggerating — it was shaking.
It was the first time the Mets were going to the World Series since ’86.
They went on to lose to the Yankees… but that night didn’t need anything else.

I remember seeing Owen’s work everywhere back in the early ’90s — not in galleries, but through the tapes and flyers that made their way to me. I was given cassettes from Doc Martin and the Wicked crew, and his artwork always stood out. Even from a distance, you could feel the energy of that West Coast scene through his style. It stuck with me all these years, so having an Owen piece now feels like finally bringing a part of that world into my own collection.

Pulled into DC that day… no plan.
Motel was sketchy as hell — but all Dead heads so who cared.
Hotter than hell.
Like standing on a frying pan.
Got into RFK and it was the same story — heat just sitting on top of you.
Edie Brickell & New Bohemians came out hot…
and then Jerry jumped in for a tune.
Second set… things escalated.
Energy building… pit getting wild…
Then… Dark Star.
And like it was scripted —
the sky absolutely opened up.
Rain pouring.
Complete chaos:
– Milkshake dumped over my friend’s head
– Some spun dude pissing on Dan’s leg 🤦♂️
– Then apologizing with a massive 5g block of something special
Only at a Dead show.
Heat. Rain. Chaos. Music.
One of those nights you never forget.
