What a way to end the week on a high!
On Friday we hosted our first Knowledge Café on AI & Community Life in Whitchurch, with Aston University’s Cyber Security Innovation Research Centre.
It was a morning of proper conversation about how AI could affect everyday life in a rural community.
There was curiosity, caution and plenty of honesty.
We could all see the benefits: less admin, better access to information, support for learning, help for small businesses and tools that could make services easier to use.
But one message came through clearly:
AI should help us spend more time with each other, not less.
We must not lose face-to-face conversation, trust, local knowledge, kindness, or the everyday moments that make a community feel like home.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, shared their views and helped make the discussion so thoughtful.
Community still starts with people in a room, listening to one another.

Earlier this week I drove over to Whitchurch to have a chat with Bell Gears at BizEd about a session I’ll be running for their Level Up Tech Club this March!
It’s a free after school and college club for 14 to 19 year olds, with a different theme each week so they can explore and level up their skills.
I also met Mark Cornelius again, he set up the Whitchurch Marketing Collaborative. It’s always inspiring seeing people bring energy and possibilities to their local community.
We talked through previous sessions they’ve done and what mine could look like, and it got me thinking about being that age and remembering feeling there was so much choice and overwhelm. Still discovering what I’m doing now to be fair 😂
So it’s great that something like this exists. A space where you can try things out and realise the stuff you’re interested in might actually turn into something real. I know for a fact I’ll be benefiting from the session just as much as the teenagers!
Small towns deserve big ideas too! 🙌
