Went looking for birds this weekend with pals @faithlilyb_@brooklyndoran and @brittinthepit , and got some really nice looks at this Pine Warbler who kept visiting us on the observation deck at the pond 😊
This is a bird I’ve heard so many times but have never really gotten a clear look at, so I’m feeling good about this one!
The joy of chasing a Flicker around a field of spring grasses and wildflower shoots, he’s not bothered by your presence or your clicking, just don’t get too close, and oh! A fox ran by a few minutes ago, and I can hear a Merlin calling from the treetops, and the sunlight is excellent, bright but not harsh, it doesn’t get much better than this!
This Killdeer had four tiny chicks waiting at the edge of the pond - by the looks of it they’re eating pretty well! 🪱
Bonus Solitary Sandpiper in the background 😊
The Green Heron! If I was pressed to pick a favourite bird this might be it. Certainly of all the Old Ausable Channel residents, they’re the birds I’m most excited to see when they return each spring.
While some debate their green-ness, ours definitely live up to their name. I think in certain lighting conditions their feathers seem to reflect more of a deep blue-green? Either way, they’re unquestionably a stunning bird, full of character!
I was very excited to catch some footage of this one at the pond a few days ago 😊
