What does an Artistic Director *actually* do?
Friday 15th May 2026
10.30am-12.30pm at The Nest
As far as we know, no-one is running a qualification in Artistic Director-ing, so how do you find out what skills you need, or what an Artistic Director really does, day to day?
What sort of career path leads to becoming an Artistic Director? How do you go about becoming one? And – after this discussion – do you still actually want to?
Our fantastic panel: Corey Campbell, Orit Azaz & Selina Thompson.

What is the Whale? And how does Talking Birds make performances and events accessible to D/deaf or hard-of-hearing audiences?
This fourth interview highlights Janet Vaughan: co-artistic director of @birdmail and initiator of The Nest, where they use Regenerative Creative Practice to help them step away from the capitalist and colonialist course.
Curious to know how artists can regenerate the world, how you can get involved in Coventry, and what she took away from DutchCulture's International Visitors Program?

🌱 Last year, DutchCulture welcomed five guests for the International Visitors Program about Regenerative Culture. They all represented European cultural organizations that put regeneration into practice.
In this five-part series, DutchCulture shares the reflections of these five visitors through interviews. Get a glimpse into their vision of regenerative culture, key aspects of their organizations and homes, and how you can be part of it.
Many thanks to our advisors Astrid Mörk, @deleeuwsj , and Josine Backus for making this program possible. @zoopformorelife
Today is #EarthDay and many of us will be thinking what can we do to make a difference?
Our upcoming screening of POWER STATION showcases how two artists in Walthamstow set out to take their street off the grid, kickstarting a solar-powered energy revolution.
Directed by the duo, POWER STATION charts their turbulent journey, from pitching the idea to their neighbours and sleeping on the roof of their home, to raising finance and launching a bid for a Christmas number one single.
Will they succeed? Join us on April 30th to find out. Link to tickets in our bio.
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion. Lets come together to get inspired by what community action can do.

Huge thank you to everyone who joined our mini Assembly for Present & Future Generations walkshop in Mile End Park yesterday - which gave rise to some really interesting and thought provoking discussions and recommendations. Really great to work with QMUL colleagues to explore what rewilding, or regenerating, not just landscapes, but businesses, organisations and institutions might really achieve (and what seeds we can sow to try and get us there). 🌱
Marking a moment - five years ago today we got the keys to The Nest and Daimler Powerhouse. What an amazing first five years it’s been, flying alongside our brilliant colleagues at Imagineer, Highly Sprung, Media Mania, Open Theatre and Pangaea 💚
Here’s to the next five…. 🥂

2 weeks with @birdmail seems like a dream. I really enjoyed the residency with them and the lunchtime chats about Swifts, Sparrowhawks and gardens. Having the canal just metres away was such a gift too. For every grateful and happy to have made new work and new connections 💜 🌱
