Violeta Mata’s My Lovely Revulsions, created at IED Barcelona, transforms what society deems grotesque into genderless autumn-winter silhouettes that feel tactile and deliberately uneasy. Through exposed seams, flipped fabrics, recycled relics, and experimental textile manipulations using blood and semen to confront bodily disgust, Mata develops materials that evoke mold, stains, decay, and contamination as aesthetic language. Blurring the line between physical, social, and emotional disgust, she challenges spectator culture and clean aesthetics, proposing a radical rethink of waste, imperfection, and what we choose to reject in a disposable world.
