📆Join us next Thursday for a webinar with Dr. Alicia Johnson, where we will explore the societal responsibilities that come with biotechnology. Dr. Johnson currently serves as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy and a Fellow in Biotechnology Regulatory Policy at the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine. Her work explores how regulatory frameworks can keep pace with rapid innovation in synthetic biology and bioremediation — and what it means to build biotechnology futures grounded in trust, justice, and community needs. Community bio labs have long been the beating heart of grassroots biological innovation. Groundbreaking projects like Opentrons, Bento Bio, Real Vegan Cheese, and Open Insulin were all made possible by the experimental freedom these spaces provide, and now the stage is set for the next wave of innovation. This Thursday, Elliot Roth will share insights into Biopunk's latest initiative: Primordia— a microgrants program funding early-stage biology experiments in community labs.
