Moving on to the production phase of the “El-Mabda2” video, Dibbanah continues to collaborate with artists emerging from different backgrounds, in alignment with his vision to create space for multidisciplinary collaborations in his various productions & artworks.
In retrospect, Dibbanah constantly interprets the intersection of the ‘built environment’, ‘cultural heritage’ & ‘surrealism’ of daily Egyptian life & street culture into his various art forms. His known use of a wide array of materials, objects, figures & styles, is expressed in most of his work that ties together a situated, magical realistic, visual lexicon of and for the city.
Designing artwork from the ground,, and the contrarieties that exist between rich & poor, the visual concept of the music video concentrates on the raw & manufactured materials that underpin interconnected spheres of neoliberalism, pop culture & the visual landscape at large.
The art direction is a reflection thereof and was inspired by a mix of post-apocalyptic & Egyptian urban street elements. The visual compositions of 3D scaffolding designs by Set Designer & Architect Eslam
@binalnaeb ’s and Dibbanah’s multi-media art installation compliment the overall mood & meaning of Marawan Pablo’s lyrical piece.
Another noteworthy collaboration is reflected in the iconic prop mastery & set dressing created by
@mankash__ in collaboration with Sculpture Artist Leyla “Leynobia” Mozayen, as seen through the street shop dressings & dining table set up throughout the video.
One figure, made explicitly by
@leynobia for this video was inspired by
@iman.hamam ‘s AI amalgamations of Goya’s “Saturn Devouring His Son.” Mozayen’s take uses trash from the streets of Cairo to illuminate the likeness and reiterates themes present throughout the installation as a whole.
Special thanks to Architectural Consultants
@ghanem.moamen &
@studio.aziz for their work on the infrastructures and installations.
