British company Brabham Racing unveiled the BT92 at the 2008 Essen Motor Show to try and take the Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record for modified production cars, set by a Dodge Viper ACR in 7 minutes 20 seconds. The engine was bored out to 4.4L from the stock 4.0L, enlarged intake and exhaust valves, specially balanced pistons and crank shaft, all to help increase the power to 508hp and 480Nm. 0-62mph time was improved by .4 seconds off the factory time. Upgraded 6 piston front calipers and 4 piston rear calipers as well as enlarged discs were fitted. The entire body was redone in carbon fiber. Only the headlights, doors and carbon fiber roof remained from the BMW M3. As a result of improvements, the rigidity of the structure was increased, and the weight of only the body was reduced by 110lbs (50kg). The AC Schnitzer CLS II (Coupe Lightweight Silhouette II) uses parts previously developed on the AC Schnitzer race teach from the Group A M3 used at the 24 hour race at the Nürburgring. The concept is simple, increase power and reduce weight. Heavy use of composite kevlar and carbon fibers were used in the build to help lower weight. To increase power the stock euro spec engine had to be rebuilt from scratch. The modifications, which include a specially programmed AC Schnitzer control unit, finely balanced conrods, precision balanced crankshaft and totally redesigned intake system with a large air box, take the nominal power up to 257 kW / 350 HP with a torque of 355 Nm / 262 lb-ft. This CLS II sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 5.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 290 km/h / 180mph. The even wider wheel arches allow the fitting of 9.5J x 18” racing rims on the front and 10.5J x 18” on the rear with low profile tires in sizes 255/35 R 18 and 285/35 R 18 respectively. Tuning company G-Power created E61 M5 Touring Hurricane RR with 820hp/603kw and 790Nm/582lb-ft and an unrestricted top speed of 225mph (362km/h). The 0-124mph (0-200km/h) sprint takes just 9.5 seconds and 0-186mph.(300km/h) in just 25.6 seconds. Wheels were changed to 20 inch Silverstone RS wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport tires, coiler suspension with nine way adjustability, increased brake rotor size with six and four piston calipers front / rear.
