The Heat of Others, 2026.
“Max, a young and ambitious researcher, travels to Svalbard, Norway, to speak at a conference on the ethics of mind enhancement. There, she discovers a high-tech experimental building powered by “Dual Resolve,” a system that harvests human body heat. As the conference unfolds, the warmth of bodies and the pressure of ideas begin to blur, pulling Max into a state of growing uncertainty where thought and sensation are no longer discernible.
In her first novel, Morgane Billuart combines an unyielding Arctic darkness and media critique to explore the boundaries between physical reality and technological innovation.”
This project, which has loved me and haunted me for the last three years, has finally taken physical shape. This is my first fiction book, so I’m both nervous and excited about its reception. I’ve tried to gather through this project the many doubts and inspirations that have moved through my world, leaving me with the feeling that, during all this time, I couldn’t have written any other story.
I’m excited to see where this story goes, hoping to write more, even in these uncertain and automated times, and long life to research, art, writing, and community.
