I did this (mostly) during the mass floodings that Korea had last year (not recommended) on a size small mountain bike (also not recommended for someone above 180 cm).
The first medal was for cycling Seoul to Busan, which is Northwest to Southeast across the country. The second medal was for cycling the entirety of the four main rivers in Korea. The third metal was for completing every other path linking those routes.
Officially, they have me recorded doing two thousand kilometers although I think this number is much higher due to the fact that I had to cycle to certain start points, go off the paths sometimes to see museums, and other things like this. It is a government program set up that anyone can do. They use a little "Passport book" that can be bought at the start or Finish Line in Incheon or Busan and you collect stamps along the way. The cost of the book was 2 or $4. I stayed at hostels and motels along the way. After collecting all the stamps, you either mail the book in or turn the book in at Incheon or Busan for your medal(s)."
