The coasts unite in Smokesignals: @diego_c_juarez grew up in Southern California; @gianna_santucci is from Florida. The two artists met at @tyler_painting during their MFA program in painting and have been studio mates since August 2023. The Pacific meets the Gulf in the City of Brotherly Love. Blue state; red state; swing state. Palm trees. Beaches. The Wissahickon. The coasts: where earth dissolves into sea. Warm air, sunscreen. The desert; the tropics. Fire and flood. Check it out now through May 2 at @bigrampphilly Curated by @wink.ink Also, fun fact: the closing reception of “Smokesignals” will act as the launch of @sensusphilly Issue 3. The gathering will take place May 2 from 6-9 p.m. Read the entire review on Substack and consider becoming a paid subscriber to keep SOS alive. Image captions: Gianna Santucci, When it’s all over I’ll meet you by the shore. Yeti cooler, projector, audio transducer, sound, 21.1 × 15.9× 15.4 inches, 2026. The newest thing at my booth with @bigrampphilly at @newartdealers was this little 8” vase made with the patient help of my husband @adamledfordceramics — I had so much fun making this, it was there in the booth for just a day but now it’s gone, I guess that’s how it can go at a fair! So, anyway, here it is as in-the-round as it can be on your screen. More on the way. Four views of: Catch, 2026, underglaze and glaze on stoneware, 8” x 6” x 6”

BIG RAMP is thrilled to announce Smokesignals, featuring new work by Diego Juárez and Gianna Santucci, curated by Macy West. Smoke signals are a highly effective means of visual communication across vast distances. The signals are tenuous and susceptible to breakdown, quickly dispersing as they reach a higher altitude, if the wind blows, or if the fire below is extinguished. A shape with no outline, they are an unbounded temporary density, the redistribution of matter from one form into another. A signal begins with clear intent, but as it continues to fold and shift, so does its meaning. Its success is dependent on the precise convergence of time and place. Smokesignals, a two-person show of Gianna Santucci and Diego Juárez’s recent work, is a temporary density, a record of survival communicating across vast distances of time, material, and memory. Smokesignals circumvents broad universalities and the impulse toward substantive meaning in favor of passing motion, process and discontinuous partialities. It’s an acknowledgment of now, and yesterday, and tomorrow held together in a sort of singularity. Opening reception: Saturday 3/26, 6-9pm Gallery viewing: Saturdays 2-4pm *UPDATE* Closing reception + Sensus 3.0 launch: Saturday 5/2 from 6-9pm (not 4/25)
