It’s Friday! That means we post our weekly specials for y’all. What goes on behind the scenes on days like these is we are also making pizzas for the Missoula senior center, whose kitchen is still under renovation, we are bringing lunch to a group at Community Medical Center, and tonight we are making 52 pizzas for the Paxson School sock hop, an annual tradition. It’s the interlacing of food production, culinary inspiration and the appetite of the Missoula community that makes our job so rewarding. Here are our specials for this weekend. . In the fall of 2003, I was traveling back from a Baltic tour with the band I was in (Volumen!) We were in the Minneapolis International Airport, awaiting our connection to Missoula. Adjacent to where we were sitting, there was a group of marathon runners from Canada. When our flight to Missoula was announced, we heard one of the Canadians say “Missoula, what’s in Missoula? “ My best friend sitting next to me said “everything good”. I still get emotional thinking about that moment. This weekend is the University of Montana’s graduation ceremony, it was nurses week, the Missoula Moonlight Market is Saturday, people are out training for our marathon (I see you Bryan), the Farmers Market is hopping, there are art shows, live music, lilacs in bloom, all the things, all the stuff. Today we’re sharing some bittersweet news. After nearly 15 years, Michael is embarking on a new adventure and he will be leaving Biga. Many of you know and love him—his energy, his warmth, his humor, and the way he makes every person who walks through our doors feel seen and welcome. What you may not see is everything he’s done behind the scenes for all these years. Michael has been the glue, the steady presence, and the heart of this place for most of Biga’s life. We first met him when he was our youngest daughter’s preschool teacher and not long after he joined us at the restaurant, waiting tables and growing into our operations manager. Over the years, he has become not just a leader our staff deeply respects, but a true cornerstone of our business and our community. Michael helped take Biga through our expansion, implementing new technologies and protocols, tripling our staff and production while enriching the work culture and standards. Michael has a rare gift: he lifts people up, he builds relationships, smooths over hard moments, sees the bigger picture, and brings a sense of calm and joy even on the busiest, most chaotic days. His presence has given confidence to our team and to our customers alike. Simply put—there is no one like him. We’ve also had the privilege of watching his life grow along the way—getting married, becoming a dad to two wonderful kids and blossoming into a better than mediocre hockey player. He’s been part of our story in every sense, and we are better because of him. While we are heartbroken to see him go, we also deeply support him. After years of giving so much to this industry, he’s stepping into a new chapter, working for the city of Missoula, a position we hope brings him renewed energy, balance, and happiness. Michael, thank you for everything you’ve given to us, to our staff, and to this community. You are truly irreplaceable, and you will be missed more than words can say.
