It’s been another busy year for our growing little family. We moved out of the lakeside tower and into a little blonde bungalow.
It’s a lot of adjustment and work but we love the new space and quiet, cozy vibes.

2025 Magic Men’s Retreat Shirts!

This year was our tenth anniversary, the MMRX!
Final Fantasy was the big MTG set release this year, so the shirts are a riff on Amano’s box art image for FF2 (probably my favorite piece of FF art ever.)
No tie-dye this year, but two colorways. ✌️
I printed them on some high quality (and thick!) 7.5 oz cotton.
I have a few extras left, mostly all Larges- hit me up if you want one!

Laura and I got married a year ago today.
It was one of the best days of my life.
Immediately after the wedding I was caught up with work and kept putting off posting wedding pictures until I had more time.
At the very least, I told myself, I would post them on our first anniversary. 🙃
It's a doomed endeavor to go through thousands of photos capturing one of the best days of your life and only pick a few. Here are some selects.

My life is so full right now.
The summer is just a constant stream of client work, travel and wedding prep. 🫨
But still made time to get away to a lakehouse for a weekend of sealed commander.
The MMR continues to be one of the best weekends in my life, every year. Very blessed to keep this tradition going.
No tie-dye on the shirts this year. I needed to keep it easier on my end, but splurged and got some high quality, wider collar shirts.

Shirts for the 2023 Annual Men’s Magic Retreat. This year we headed out to the Pacific Northwest, and filled the silence of the forest with salty magical tears.
The current MTG set out right now is an official Lord of the Rings cross over, so this year’s shirts are heavily inspired by the old animated LOTR films.
The Bakshi and Rankin/Bass films left an eternal impact on me, and it was a joy to revisit them for this design.

‘Acid Breath’
This is my final piece for my @smarterartschool mentorship with @scottmfischer - a Dungeons & Dragons Player’s Handbook Cover illustration.
Taking the character and creature I designed previously and bringing them together into a full composition wrap around cover (with some supporting cast).
I redrew each of these characters multiple times throughout the process of painting this- and it was absolutely worth the effort.

🖤 Adult Black Dragon 🖤
I wanted to really challenge myself with my creature choice, so went for the iconic Dungeons & Dragons Black Dragon.
A visually complicated monster with plenty of cultural weight and existing interpretations.
I tried to stay “on-model” in key areas, while pushing and changing a few things in others.

I went with the most “out-there” of my designs, making the BD scrappier, more alien and more terrifying.
I’m really proud of this illustration. When I was 8 years old, a Hobbytown USA opened up down the street from my house. I would run there after school and just pour through the pages of the 2nd & 3rd edition Monster Manuals and their compendiums. Saving up my limited allowance to purchase them. I didn’t even know how to actually play D&D, and it didn’t matter. They filled my mind and my imagination. Likely I would not be painting today without that experience.
I’d like to think 8 year old me would appreciate this dragon illustration just as much as he loved the ones in those manuals decades ago.
