We visited Bijlmer - a neighborhood imagined in the 1960s as a utopian modern city, later stigmatized as “the ghetto,” and now known as a powerful site of Black cultural resilience, migration histories, and self-determined community-building.
Walking through Bijlmer through the eyes and stories shared by @wpocs , I was struck by how space remembers - not as architecture alone, but as voices, textures, struggle, joy, survival, and reinvention.
Here, urban dreaming and resistance meet in everyday gestures, open fields, courtyards, sites of remembrance, the quiet insistence of existence.
It reminded me that to understand a place, you must listen to its people - beyond data, beyond design, beyond first impressions.
Cities are not built from material - they are built from memory, proximity, and courage.
Grateful for the invitation to witness Bijlmer not as a “case study,” but as an archive of becoming.

Last month, I had the joy of facilitating an interactive slot at the Block Seminar “Past Forward: Inherited Futures” at the University of Basel - an encounter across memory, philosophy, history, African studies, and art.
Together, we explored IM/MATERIALITIES - how the body remembers, carries, and reimagines inherited stories.
How movement can be both archive and language.
How collective reflection can become a site of unlearning, re-rooting, and renewal.
Grateful for the openness, curiosity, and depth each participant brought into the room.
For me, these exchanges affirm that the body is not just a vessel for expression - it is a living theory, a moving text.

Así dábamos comienzo al tercer año del proyecto cultural BAILAR LOS CAMPUS.
La ULPGC y el Cabildo de Gran Canaria en colaboración con peso producciones sigue apostando por BAILAR LOS CAMPUS, un proyecto cuya motivación principal es la de provocar una apreciación del acto de expresarse a través del movimiento mediante intervenciones dancísticas en los diferentes Campus. Estos encuentros tendrán lugar entre abril y diciembre de 2026.
La Escuela de Arquitectura en el Campus de Tafira, fue el escenario para “Instant Dance #3”, provocando una mañana diferente , donde profesionales de las artes del movimiento sorprendieron e interrumpieron la cotidianidad del Campus.
Las artistas que nos acompañaron en esta ocasión: @hh.abian , @tamicirco , @joseverabello y @biekhay .
Como nos recuerda una de las coreógrafas más influyentes del siglo XX Pina Bausch «Bailemos, bailemos, bailemos, de lo contrario estamos perdidos»

🔸𝗧𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗥 𝗗𝗘 𝗗𝗔𝗡𝗭𝗔 𝗘̀𝗘́𝗠𝗜 🔸
El sábado 2 de mayo, el cuerpo se activó desde otro lugar.
«𝗘̀𝗘́𝗠𝗜» —término yoruba que remite al espíritu, al aliento vital, a la respiración que sostiene la vida— abrió un espacio donde la energía circula, se comparte y se transforma.
A través de la guía y la improvisación, el movimiento fue apareciendo como memoria, como impulso, como algo que ya estaba ahí.
Ritmos africanos, presencia y escucha para habitar el cuerpo desde dentro.
Un encuentro donde la danza no se impone,
sino que emerge.
Gracias a quienes lo hicieron posible
y a @biekhay por acompañar este proceso desde la experiencia y la raíz.

There’s a kind of honesty that doesn’t ask for attention;it simply exists, undeniable. In her movement, you don’t find spectacle; you find presence. Every shift, every pause feels like a quiet decision to stay with herself, to listen inward before offering anything outward. It’s a practice of truth-telling without words, where the body carries what language often fails to hold.
And somehow, in witnessing that, something unsettles and softens at the same time. You’re not just watching, you’re recognizing fragments of your own unspoken experiences. The tension you ignore, the emotions you archive, the parts of you waiting for release. Her work doesn’t ask you to understand it; it asks you to feel enough to remember yourself.

Today, on International Dance Day, dance moved through architecture, bodies, and breath. 🌿
As part of Instant Dance, I collaborated and performed with a team of artists brought together by Peso Producciones @pesoproducciones , activating the campus of the School of Architecture at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria @ulpgc_para_ti@ulpgccultura
With three dancers, a musician, and a shared curiosity, we entered space as listeners - allowing movement to respond to structure, rhythm, and presence. This is where my practice lives: in the meeting point between body, environment, and collective imagination.

Por eso, este 𝘃𝗶𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝟭 𝗱𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘆𝗼 te traemos, de la mano de @hearts_heartist (Nigeria), una pieza muy, pero que muy especial al @teatrovictoria .
🇳🇬 Una que, en realidad, más que una pieza, es una ‘𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮’ (que en yorùbá, una de las lenguas de 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮, se dice ‘ÌRÍRÍ’) única y maravillosa.
💭 Sinopsis:
«’ÌRÍRÍ’ es una obra de danza psicosomática que explora el cuerpo como un lugar de memoria, resistencia y autosanación. Es el viaje de una mujer al límite: está en una misión y se enfrenta a los obstáculos que le presenta la experiencia de la vida. También desentraña y se sumerge en la memoria, buscando en la danza la encarnación del hogar y la creación de un paisaje interior».
