Post 2/3 (partido en dos) (location emphasis)
⬇️⬇️⬇️
This second set of portraits from this series aims to highlight the location and once again a sense of belonging. In these portraits you view our subjects partaking in a simple dinner with friends, no posing, nor trying to stand out but rather fit in with the location. The question is, how “normal” can they act? Despite trying to act as “normal” as they can to fit in they stand out. If anything as models they understand that they need to act “normal” but within the shoot they stand out even more, but I believe it would be more normal to an audience to see them posing.
This reflects the feeling of belonging I felt growing up in San Diego as a first generation immigrant. Sometimes as much as I tried to fit in I felt out of place and I knew that the people around felt the same way. To the point where trying to act normal or trying to fit in felt even more out of place. Rather sometimes it felt more “normal” to act and follow within the negative stereotypes placed on me by my community and myself. I wasn’t sure where I fit in until I accepted that I didn’t. This helped and guided me towards better understanding my identity.
