Yesterday our Seafront Patrol spotted something unusual floating out in the sea. They immediately contacted the Coastguard and described the location using local land marks.
The Coastguard were quick to task Shoreham Lifeboat crew who were able to get closer to the object, which turned out to be a tent.
If you ever see something in the water that doesn’t look right, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard☎️
Floating objects can sometimes signal someone in danger, create hazards for water users, or become dangerous debris.
Your quick actions could help save a life.
Please remember:
- Don’t enter the water yourself.
- Keep the object in sight and note its location. You can use land marks or beach ID codes from the local signs.
- Share clear details about what you can see.
- Always call 999 and ask for Coastguard.
A big thank you to everyone involved this morning for acting quickly and safely.
Sunny weekend at Brighton Beach? Stay safe while you enjoy it! 🌊
Bright days bring big crowds, and while the atmosphere at Brighton Beach is amazing, it’s important to keep safety in mind:
Stick with friends🏖️– It’s easy to get separated in busy areas, so agree on a meeting point just in case.
Be mindful your alcohol intake🍺 - Drinking in the sun hits harder than you think. Alcohol can dehydrate you, affect your judgment, and increase the risk of accidents. Know your limits.
Stay hydrated💧- Bring plenty of water and take breaks in the shade to avoid heat exhaustion.
Protect your skin🧴- Use sunscreen regularly, even if there’s a breeze.
Respect the space🚮 – Take your rubbish with you and look out for others around you and use the bins!
Look out for one another🚨 - If someone seems unwell or in trouble, don’t hesitate to get help.
Enjoy the sunshine, the sea, and the vibe, but make sure everyone gets home safely
Trike naming & ribbon cutting! 2 replacement trikes -Elder Care rides. Joy of @bhseafrontteam for bringing their 4- wheelers to join our 3-wheelers! 50 supporters, crew with elders cutting the ribbons! 🎀 thanks to The Temple support 🙏 Epic thanks to @focus_foundation_uk for being our first ever full funder of a whole trike! #lifechanging & donors for 2nd trike. Elder Care rides go out in pairs so we needed to replace both worn out trikes together! 4000 rides a year with super lean staff of just 2 fulltime and 50 volunteers makes it happen, only with community support. Thank you! @vervate_official credit all pics 🤩
After a busy weekend on our beautiful seafront, we sadly see a lot of rubbish left behind 🌊
If you’re enjoying the sunshine and fresh sea air, please help us keep Brighton beach clean for everyone. Use the bins provided or take your rubbish home with you.
Why not take a few extra minutes to do a mini beach clean before you leave? Every small action makes a big difference 💙
Let’s all do our bit to protect this special place.
Enjoy the lovely weather and have a great weekend!
We’ve worked together to install another recycling tube on the seafront 🙌♻️
Our newest location is just west of the Seafront Office - making it even easier to dispose of fishing line, rope, and netting responsibly.
📍 You can now find all 7 tubes at:
• Hove Western Esplanade (west of Rockwater)
• King Alfred Beach
• Hove Lawns (next to Hove Lawns Café)
• Norfolk Groyne (opposite the bandstand)
• NEW: Outside Brighton & Hove Seafront Team Office (beach side)
• Albion Groyne (west of Palace Pier)
• Sea Lanes Brighton (pool building)
Beach cleaners help collect and deposit materials, while our LNTB tube guardians (Luke & Dan) empty the tubes twice a month during busy fishing season (Nov–Mar), and monthly over summer.
Everything collected is weighed and sent to the Anglers Line Recycling Scheme, then processed by MYGroup (REFACTORY) in Hull. The recycled material is turned into storm boards and used for things like gym shower walls (like at Sea Lanes), lockers, garden furniture, and more.
If you find any fishing line, rope, or netting on the beach, please pop it in one of these tubes 💙
Thank you for helping protect our coastline 🌊

Seen a seal on the beach? Here’s what you need to know 👇
Seals often come onto beaches to rest (this is called “hauling out”) they are usually NOT stranded or in trouble. They may look sleepy or alone, but this is often completely normal behaviour.
What to do if you see a seal: ✅ Keep your distance ✅ Keep dogs on leads and well away ✅ Stay quiet and observe from afar ✅ Keep other people back if you can
What NOT to do: ❌ Don’t touch or approach them ❌ Don’t try to move them back into the water ❌ Don’t pour water on them ❌ Don’t allow dogs or crowds to gather
When to call for help: ⚠️ If the seal is visibly injured ⚠️ If it looks extremely thin or weak ⚠️ If it’s being disturbed or in immediate danger
You can contact the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) @bdmlr_uk a UK charity that responds to marine animals in distress, gives expert advice, and helps rescue and rehabilitate injured wildlife.
Let’s respect their space and keep them safe 💙 Save & share to help protect our coastline.
It was originally three… but it turns out it’s actually FOUR members of the Seafront Team taking on the Brighton Marathon this year in support of their chosen charities 🙈🏃♂️
Including Dan – who we definitely didn’t mean to leave out! 😅
Good luck to all four of you, we’ll be cheering you on every step of the way 👏
#BrightonMarathon2026
This morning, one of the team came across a length of discarded fishing line along the shoreline and safely dragged it back up towards the Black Rock area. 🎣
Fishing line and rope can be really harmful to wildlife and the marine environment, so removing it from the beach makes a big difference.
If you spot something like this and it’s safe to move, please help by bringing it further up the beach and letting us know. Every small action helps keep our seafront clean and safe. 💙
Big team effort down on the Western Hove Promenade! 💪
The winter storms hit hard this year, so our Seafront Team joined forces with Environmental Services to move the shingle back onto the beach and make the promenade safe and accessible again.
A quote from our manager (who also enjoyed some time in the telehandler!):
“I’m really grateful to Environmental Services for collaborating with us on this clearance. Thank you to all the managers who made this possible, and to Mark for carrying out the works. 🚜 A big shout out as well to all the operatives doing the sweeping on the prom. There’s still more to clear, but we’re getting there. This is the council at its best, working together!” 👏
Exciting news from the seafront! ✨🛖
We’re thrilled to announce that 11 brand new beach huts in Hove are now available to purchase.
Perfect for soaking up the sea air, relaxing with family and friends, or enjoying those iconic sunsets 🌅

Great to see the Volk’s Electric Railway back up and running for summer ☀️🚋
There’s nothing quite like a ride along this iconic coastline, definitely one to add to your summer plans!
Make sure you hop on and experience a true classic this season 🌊✨
