Immensely grateful for sharing a plant-based "kamayan dinner" with wonderful people as part of the special celebration for my solo show "Sometimes My Accent Slips Out" at Cue Art Foundation.
Kamayan, a traditional Filipino feast, involves eating food with your hands and serving it on banana leaves. The Tagalog word "kamayan" translates to "by hand," and the communal style of the feast is often associated with family, history, and celebration.
Chefs
@woldykusina and
@ljalmendras prepared a colorful and delectable plant-based menu inspired by the colors, display, and texture of the exhibition. Featuring: * Goji berry red rice * Mushroom-dashi brown rice * Garlic-turmeric rice * Coconut-pandan rice * Pancit * Pickled guava-papaya * Skewers: mushroom adobo, jackfruit barbecue * Lumpia with calamansi-hibiscus sauce * Roasted eggplant salad * Ube suman * Mango and Dragon Fruit
Food has always been a cornerstone of my identity as a Filipino and an immigrant. Sharing food is my love language; it's my way of bringing people together, fostering a sense of community, and creating a sensory experience that evokes memories of family and (my) hometown.
Thank you to
@jinnykk and
@cueart for making this possible. Heartfelt gratitude to everyone who attended, participated, and donated. This means the world to me.
