When structural engineers travel, they see more than landmarks. They notice load paths, materials, connections, construction methods, and the creative ways people build for their environment.
Welcome to Through the Eyes of a Structural Engineer, a series highlighting what our team notices while exploring places around the world.
Join Principal Andrew Van Hook for our first stop: Ecuador.
Hallelujah, as Justin Bieber said 🙌
This is just some of the projects we work on.
Spaces designed to make a difference.
Places that bring people together, support growth, and shape communities.
Different projects, one goal creating places people actually want to be.
Hallelujah for that.
Odd Fellows Building
Salt Lake City, UT
Originally constructed in 1891, this historic building was carefully relocated in the 21st century from the west side to the east side of Market Street in Salt Lake City. BHB performed a comprehensive seismic evaluation and implemented retrofits to bring the structure up to current life-safety standards. Today, the building serves as a dynamic office space, seamlessly blending modern engineering and architectural improvements with its historic character, ensuring its continued presence as a cherished landmark.
Today, on International Nurses Day, we recognize the compassion, resilience, and dedication of nurses everywhere. 💙
At BHB, we're proud to support healthcare professionals by helping create the spaces where healing happens. From hospitals and medical centers to specialty care facilities, we've had the privilege of working on projects that strengthen communities and support lifesaving care every day. Behind every patient story is a team of nurses making a difference through long hours, steady hands, and caring hearts. Thank you for the impact you make today and every day.

Draper Animal Shelter
Draper, UT
Prior to this building's completion in 2007, Sandy and Draper shared an animal shelter. The colored concrete flooring has animal footprints stamped, leading visitors into an inviting lobby. The building has offices, a breakroom, and kennels for dogs, cats, and other animals. The shelter provides adoption information, animal reporting procedures, pet licensing, and permits.

Whitehall Building - Site Visit 🦺
Burley, ID
One of our engineers made a site visit to the Whitehall Building, where we are currently working on a remodel and addition. As part of the project, we designed a new office building to fit between the Burley Theatre and the Whitehall Building. The scope includes excavating a basement, addressing high groundwater conditions, shoring the excavation adjacent to the existing structures, and installing micropiles beneath the footings.
