Flintstrumentals Fridays is back once again! Every week I break down one of the songs from my new album. This week I'm talking about "Club Network" aka the DJ Posse Cut featuring DJ V1rus, BassOwl, DJ Thunder, DJ Craft, King Tragic, and Troy Carlton on the live bass. Named after the popular 90's club/concert venue on Dort Highway on Flint Michigan's Southside. DJ Fish and I started going to the Network when we were underage teenagers sneaking in and partying all night. We saw some amazing shows there and that stage was rocked by many established artists like A Tribe Called Quest, Esham, Natas, Dice, ICP, and many more. Eventually we lined up our own show there in 1993 as the opening act for Mafia along with Flint veterans Redbone and Chi Town Mack. Big shout out to ReRun for hooking us up. We had so many great times at the Network. Unfortunately the club didn't survive and now the building is an event center for a local Church. The song Club Network is a no holds barred DJ posse cut with 5 dope DJs kutting and scratching it up for 16 bars each. The beat is a dark bass heavy banger with funky drums chops and various martial arts sounds spread throughout. I've always wanted to produce a DJ Posse Cut and this track turned out incredible. Flintstrumentals Fridays is here! Every week I break down one of the songs from my new album. This week I'm discussing "AfterShock". Named after the little hotel bar over on Center road on the East Side of Flint Michigan. In the early 2000's my group the Artfull Dodgers had a monthly Hip Hop night at the Aftershock, and put on some great concerts there. We performed a lot and also brought some cool acts out including Mastamind from Natas, Mic One with DJ Risky Business, Aslaam Mahdi, Jozi Whalez, Rising Sunz, 10 Cent Depozit, and many more. Our DJ SirReal aka BassOwl was also a staple at the Aftershock at those shows always rocking two turntables with a crate full of vinyl. Great memories performing and partying at that little spot. Unfortunately the Aftershock didn't make it, and was closed down and demolished some years back. The song Aftershock is a golden era style classic boom bap beat with dusty drum breaks matched with warm analog record samples.
