Join Dr Eshagh Namazi - Geotechnical Lead -Tunnel Specialist, as he presents Conventional and Sequential Excavation in Challenging Conditions, a case study of the timber heading tunnel underneath Elephant and Castle Station. This presentation explores the delivery of a district heating tunnel beneath critical infrastructure in one of London’s most constrained urban environments, highlighting the role of detailed ground movement analysis, targeted mitigation strategies, and comprehensive monitoring in protecting key existing assets throughout construction. We look forward to sharing this work globally and hearing insights from the session.

Last week, more than 80 BG&E and SYSTRA ANZ team members came together for a lunch-and-learn exploring high-speed rail opportunities in Australia. Led by Alain Hocke, High-Speed Rail Lead at SYSTRA Group, who was visiting from France, the panel discussion sparked conversation around the opportunities, challenges and future of high-speed rail in the Australian context. It was also a great example of what the next chapter with SYSTRA can look like in practice, bringing our teams together, sharing knowledge, and drawing on broader international expertise as new opportunities emerge. With access to deeper technical capability, global experience, and stronger connections across markets, this is the kind of collaboration that will help shape how we deliver future projects

Another Transforming Transport Summit wrapped up, and our second year as coffee cart sponsor which is always a highlight for the BG&E team. The summit was a great opportunity for our rail, roads and bridges leaders to come together from across the country and connect in person. The standout theme this year, dissolving the lines between transport modalities to prioritise the customer experience, is exactly how we should be approaching modern infrastructure. It’s an important shift for the industry, and one we strongly support in our own project work. Thank you to Rebecca Baker and Emma Drummond (Hall) for being so great to work with in delivering the activation. We also had plenty to celebrate at the summit John Shaw Dinner: 🏅Congratulations to Stuart Cook on receiving the Fellowship Alumni Award. 🏅 A huge well done to Brad Sherlock on completing the 2025 TA Fellows Program, and to his group for winning their project and presenting at the summit. Proud to support Transport Australia for nine years and counting.

Delivering critical water infrastructure for growing communities 💧 BG&E is proud to support Southern Downs Regional Council in the upgrade of the Warwick Water Treatment Plant in Queensland. The existing distribution system was originally installed in the 1960s. It is reaching the end of its service life and now needs a more reliable, maintainable, and future-ready solution. Our team has delivered the concept through to Issued for Construction (IFC ) design for a new Distribution Centre. It is designed to improve how water is distributed, controlled, and monitored across Warwick and surrounding areas. The project includes a new pump station, provisions for increased future capacity, a 9ML (nine megalitre) reservoir, and upgraded pipework connections. These upgrades ensure a secure and resilient water supply for the community. With a fully integrated, multidisciplinary approach spanning civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, hydraulics, and geotechnical disciplines, this project reinforces BG&E’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure. It supports regional growth. We’re also excited to continue our partnership with SDRC, having recently been awarded the design of a new trunk main to support future development in Warwick West. If you're interested in learning more about our water infrastructure solutions or wish to collaborate, contact us to discuss your project needs. 📸Image for illustrative purposes only. #WaterInfrastructure #RegionalDevelopment #EngineeringExcellence #SustainableInfrastructure #QueenslandProjects

The John Shaw Dinner 2026 was a night to remember. A huge congratulations to Stuart Cook, Transport Market Lead – QLD, on his recognition and his powerful address on the night. Stuart spoke about the fellowship program not as a line on a CV, but as a turning point that has shaped both his professional and personal life over the past decade. He reminded us that the leaders who drive our industry forward are the ones who show up as their genuine selves and create space for others to do the same. For Stuart, that means showing up as who he really is: a dad to three boys, someone who loves the salt, a proud Queenslander, and someone whose passion for delivering infrastructure projects runs in his DNA. That’s the version of Stuart our clients, partners and teams experience. A big thank you to Transport Australia for hosting such a memorable evening. We love supporting the work you do and were grateful to be part of such a fun and meaningful night. #JohnShawDinner #TransportAustralia #Infrastructure #Queensland

Connecting with the next generation of engineers at UWA 🎓 Our Perth team recently attended the UWA Careers Fair at Winthrop Hall. We connected with students exploring careers in engineering and the built environment. Represented by Kim Nguyen - Experience Bridges Engineer, Igor Velkovski - Experience Bridges Engineer, and Zarinne Perera - Senior Structural Engineer, we shared insights into our multidisciplinary projects, early career pathways, and what it’s like to work at BG&E. These conversations are key to helping students bridge the gap between study and industry. If you’re a student or graduate looking to kickstart your career with meaningful, real-world impact, we’d love to hear from you. At our London office, a recent bake-off brought out some seriously impressive talent, with the team serving up a delicious spread of homemade treats. It was a great excuse to come together, share a few laughs, and admire the incredible effort that went into every bake. Which one would you be reaching for first? 😋🥖

What starts as “just a team dinner” rarely ends that way in our Manila office. Over a generous buffet with Araj Lal (BIM Manager, Australia & International), Ali Samani (Technical Lead in Engineering, Manila), and Gregory Chow (Managing Director, SYSTRA Philippines), the conversation about projects shifted to stories, jokes, and, of course, karaoke. The unexpected plot twist: Gregory taking the mic and singing his heart out to “Beautiful Things” by Benson Boone. Not exactly how most people picture a team dinner – and that is exactly what we loved about it. Moments like this break down barriers and remind us that the best collaborations start with genuine human connection.
