A Life Well Lived: Remembering Doris Fisher With sadness, respect, and profound appreciation, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco remembers, honors, and celebrates the extraordinary life of Doris Fisher. Over the decades, Doris Fisher helped champion opportunities for young people across San Francisco through her enduring support of BGCSF and other youth-serving nonprofits. Her family’s legacy can be felt across generations of Club youth, and through the continued partnership between BGCSF and Gap Inc., and its affiliated brands. "I was extremely lucky to know the friendship of Doris Fisher for many, many years. Together with her husband, Don, the Fishers were always very generous to the Club, starting in the early 1960s. Their support was more than just financial, they were investors and collaborators in the mission and purpose of BGCSF. Both Doris and Don were very proud of the work this organization does with youth, families, and neighborhoods." - Rob Connolly, President & CEO of BGCSF We are deeply grateful for Doris' kind heart, her love of community, and her tenacity for fighting for causes she believed in.

Big thanks to @charlesschwab for partnering with us on another impactful Reality Store experience for our teens! The Reality Store is an interactive financial literacy workshop where teens step into real-world scenarios—each assigned a career, family status, and monthly salary—and learn how to budget, set priorities, and make informed financial decisions. We’re grateful for this continued partnership. For nearly two decades, Charles Schwab has supported our youth as the Presenting Sponsor of our annual Youth of the Year celebration, and as a partner committed to helping young people prepare for what’s ahead!

As part of #NationalVolunteerWeek, we’re proud to highlight volunteers who show up consistently for our youth—like Matthew Chapman at our Tenderloin Clubhouse. A Power Hour volunteer, Matthew works with our members to support homework and build strong learning habits during out-of-school time, helping set the foundation for long-term academic success. “As a retired attorney, moving back to the city after being away for two decades, with my wife still working full-time and our twin daughters fully grown, I was looking for some community—and I found it at Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco. Working with the first graders at Power Hour is a wonderful way to help out while spending time with some youthful energy. Definitely a cure for empty-nest syndrome!” Matthew’s story is a reminder that volunteering is impactful for both youth and the adults who show up for them. Through Power Hour, volunteers like Matthew help advance Academic Success, providing the support and encouragement young people need to thrive in school. Thank you, Matthew, for being part of the Tenderloin Clubhouse community!

As part of #NationalVolunteerWeek, we’re proud to highlight our longstanding partnership with @theguardsmen . Each year, Guardsmen volunteers show up for BGCSF youth in meaningful ways—supporting our Kids Night Out event, helping at Camp Mendocino’s changeover day, and bringing holiday joy by donating a Christmas tree and spending time with Club members decorating and making ornaments together. Their commitment extends beyond these moments. Through their broader work, The Guardsmen send thousands of youth to outdoor programs each year—including many BGCSF youth who attend Camp Mendocino—experiences that build leadership, communication skills, and self-confidence. This partnership is a strong example of how volunteers support Good Character & Community Engagement, creating opportunities for youth to connect, contribute, and grow within their communities. Thank you to The Guardsmen for continuing to invest in our youth year after year.

As part of #NationalVolunteerWeek, we’re proud to highlight our partnership with @wearebayfc and the volunteers who help bring it to life. This year, we launched our first all-girls league, Players of Tomorrow, in partnership with Bay FC and Street Soccer USA, with support from Visa. In its first full season, the league is expanding access to soccer for elementary and middle school girls from across our Clubhouses. Volunteers like Felipe Chan, a Bay FC coach supporting Columbia Park Clubhouse, play a key role in making this possible, showing up each week to coach, mentor, and create a positive, supportive environment for players. This partnership is a powerful example of how volunteers support Healthy Lifestyles, helping youth stay active, build confidence, and experience the benefits of team sports. Thank you to Bay FC and all the volunteers who make this league possible!

It’s #NationalVolunteerWeek, and we’re grateful for the many volunteers who show up for Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco youth each day. At BGCSF, our work is grounded in our Formula for Impact—supporting young people in Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, Good Character & Community Engagement, and Job Readiness with Earning Potential. Our volunteers play a role in every part of that work, from mentoring and tutoring to coaching, career exposure, and supporting experiences across our Clubs and Camp Mendocino. This week, we’ll be highlighting how volunteers help bring each of these focus areas to life, and the real impact that creates for youth across San Francisco. Our Teen Advocacy Group (TAG) and All Children Thrive (ACT) teens brought the Sunnydale community together this week for a Community Health Resource Fair—designed, planned, and led entirely by youth. From nonprofit resource booths and teen-led presentations to an Easter egg hunt, photo booth, games, and arts & crafts, the event brought neighbors together, shared valuable resources, and highlighted youth voice in action. We were excited to see so many families from Sunnydale and Greater Visitacion Valley come out and engage. ACT teens are currently working on a policy proposal to address littering in the neighborhood, and this event included a community survey to gather input and elevate local voices. Throughout the year, Club members take part in leadership and service opportunities like these—building skills and learning that they have the power to shape and positively bring about change in their community. Check out the photos!
