BFoP presented our petition calling for the West Yorkshire Pension Fund (WYPF) to divest from companies complicit in the genocide in Palestine to a full Bradford Council meeting today.
The Council voted to forward the petition to WYPF for consideration.
A Labour amendment to a motion on the same topic from the Independent group of councillors was passed. The amendment is a massive step forward from the Labour position a year ago.
The persistent, collective public campaigning and pressure and the voices from the Independent Group in the Council has forced Labour to shift their previous position.

A UK General Practitioner registered with the General Medical Council is under scrutiny after allegedly posting a response on social media appearing to endorse the killing of Palestinian children. Dr Staveley reportedly replied “not enough” when asked how many Palestinian babies he had “sniped”.
Despite the public outcry, Staveley remains on the medical register and continues to hold a valid licence to practise.

Today, three of the four activists were sentenced to 20 months in custody for shutting down Teledyne in Shipley in April 2024.
The company manufactures and supplies parts to Israel. 80% of its engineering products are for military use, including weapons used by the Israeli army, contributing to the indiscriminate killing of civilians in Gaza.
The jury refused to convict the activists at their first trial despite the Judge ruling out their legal defences. However, the CPS pressed for a retrial and secured convictions. The activists are likely to serve 40% of their sentence.
They can incarcerate us but they can’t break our spirit. In the words of one of the Defendants
“No regrets no remorse, whatever the sentence… it will be worth it!”
We stand in love and solidarity, fighting against oppression and demanding an immediate arms embargo. The fight continues. Bring it on!
