Before the day ends, we place the future of the Church into God’s hands.
Tonight we pray for the Crown Nominations Commission as they continue the process of discerning the next Bishop of Leeds.
For wisdom beyond personal preference; for hope beyond uncertainty; and for the courage to follow where God leads.
Whether or not we fully understand the process, we can all take part through prayer, encouragement and hope for the future.
Goodnight from Bradford Cathedral.

As evening comes, we give thanks for all who have prayed today for the process of appointing the next Bishop of Leeds.
We pray for everyone involved:
for energy after long conversations,
for peace after demanding decisions,
and for trust in God’s guidance.
We also pray for the life of our diocese:
for parish churches and cathedrals,
for schools and charities,
for those full of faith and those full of questions.
May we continue to grow as a Church that welcomes, listens, and serves.

Discernment can sometimes sound like a complicated church word.
At its heart, it simply means prayerfully listening: listening to God, to one another and to the needs of the world around us.
This afternoon, please continue to pray for those discerning the next Bishop of Leeds.
Pray for wisdom that is compassionate; leadership that builds unity; and faith that is rooted in service rather than status.

As we reach the middle of the day, we continue to hold the Crown Nominations Commission in our prayers as they interview candidates for the next Bishop of Leeds.
Pray for patience where decisions are complex.
For kindness in every conversation.
For clarity and wisdom amid many voices and hopes.
And pray too for the Diocese of Leeds:
for churches, schools, chaplaincies, communities and all who seek to share the love of Christ across West Yorkshire and the Dales.
“The Lord will guide you continually.” — Isaiah 58:11

At different points through the day, Christians have traditionally paused to pray. This morning, we pause to pray for those discerning the next Bishop of Leeds.
Please pray:
— for those being interviewed today
— for those asking difficult questions
— and for wisdom in every conversation
Choosing a bishop is not simply about leadership or management. It is about prayerfully discerning who might help guide and serve the Church in this region in the years ahead.
Come, Holy Spirit.

Today, members of the Crown Nominations Commission are meeting to interview and discern who God may be calling to be the next Bishop of Leeds.
(The Crown Nominations Commission is the group responsible for recommending new bishops in the Church of England.)
We invite you to join us in prayer today:
for wisdom in conversations,
for honesty and humility,
and for openness to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
As a cathedral serving Bradford and the wider diocese, we pray for a bishop who will help the Church grow in faith, hope, compassion, and courage.

There is still time to book yourself on to our widely acclaimed Ecclesiastical Textiles Tour to see some of our hidden historic items, such as the Khartoum Altar Frontal by the Leek Embroidery Society pictured here.
Most of these pieces are in a fragile condition, and so they are not normally on display to the public.

We are delighted to have two flower displays this week. The flowers by the pulpit are given by Yvonne Fearnley in loving memory of her husband Gordon, and the lectern flowers are given by Isla and Christopher Skinner in thanksgiving for 25 years together and celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary.
