LET'S TALK ABOUT BOOKS Y'ALL ๐๏ธ I am so excited to be launching a new podcast: @beyondthenextchapter . Think of this as... a book recommendation podcast. A place to find your next great read from romance, to historical fiction, non-fiction, etc. We'll talk to our favorite authors (!!!), Arizona authors and readers like you. Some other important topics for the pod: how can we improve literacy rates in our community? How can you encourage your kids to read? How can you find more time read? Audiobooks vs. books? And what's a silent book club? (Hint: it's super cool.)
First episode drops on 1/23 ๐๐๐๐๐งก
artificial intelligence isn't new, but whether you like it it not it's evolving every day and changing the way we live our lives.
this week on @beyondthenextchapter , I'm joined by Jane Friedman. she's spent decades in the publishing industry and now reports on it, working with authors every day.
from lawsuits, to book illustrations and publicity, there is A LOT to talk about (and Jane thinks some new technology may be helpful for readers and authors!). listen now everywhere you get your podcasts ๐๏ธ
here's what I read in April! warning: weird and sad books are my thing right now ๐ซถ @hifortesa is my podcast guest this month and I need to talk about her book with you!
influencers are literally everywhere. and sometimes so are there kids.
that can mean publicly sharing, and making money, off of life's most intimate moments: potty training or getting sick or hurt. in her new book, journalist Fortesa Latifi is examining family influencing and the impact of growing up online. it's called "Like, Follow, Subscribe: Influencer Kids and the Cost of a Childhood Online." SUPER fascinating and timely.
she chats with me on the latest episode of @beyondthenextchapter ๐๏ธ (Fortesa also grew up in Arizona and is an ASU grad.)
hopping on this trend: the hype surrounding a book and my expectations going into it play a huge role in whether or not I love it. TELL ME YOUR THOUGHTS!
in honor of national library week, here are the library books I'm reading now and what I have on hold:
(not my usual setting, but filming at home means my cats make an appearance) ๐ ๐โโฌ
BUY A BOOK AND GET A TATTOO! you know we're always looking for new independent bookstores ๐
and this was a first for me! I recently did a story at @inkedandboundbooks in Phoenix: a new romance bookstore & fine line tattoo studio ๐ค
happy reading, my friends!
"the book was better than the movie."
yes I am one of those people, but it isn't always the case. in honor of "Project Hail Mary," we're talking about the best and worst page-to-screen adaptations on @beyondthenextchapter . SPOILER: I LOVED THE BOOK AND THE MOVIE AND CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT GRACE AND ROCKY. ๐ชจ๐ฅฒ
I'm joined by @claremmulroy , the books reporter for USA Today (dream job!).
listen now everywhere you get your podcasts. it's amaze, amaze, amaze.
what I read in March: memoirs, I fell in love with a classic and I also fell back in love with a childhood classic ๐ I have an unpopular opinion about a very popular book and @jessicabgeorge 's sophomore novel "Love By the Book" was a highlight! she'll be on @beyondthenextchapter soon ๐
one of the highlights of the @tucsonfestivalofbooks this year: chatting with iconic children's book author R.L. Stine.
more than 30 years after the release of "Goosebumps," Stine is still writing and meeting kids of all ages (including grown-ups like me) who have fallen in love with reading thanks to his series. he told me when he'll retire and I love his answer ๐
