The People’s Pavilion isn’t just about design — it’s about who gets to access, curate, and shape culture. This summer, the People’s Pavilion 2025 Community Festival brought the William Morris Gallery alive for its 75th anniversary. Over five weeks of free events, the Pavilion became a stage for music, film, conversation, creativity and design — created with and for local residents, and led by young people from across London. Highlights included: • 15+ free events — from live music and film screenings to workshops and installations • £30,000+ invested to make culture accessible for everyone • Collaborations with brilliant artists, makers, bands and community partners across Waltham Forest and beyond Produced by Beyond The Box CIC with our incredible Young Producers, the festival proved the power of culture to connect people, open up public spaces and celebrate community creativity. 👉 Watch the full film now and head to the link in bio (projects page) and relive the festival energy and story. Expressions of Resilience - Reclaiming Space for Creativity, Authenticity, and Community @beyondtheb_x @buildhollywood At the heart of Expressions of Resilience is true collaboration—valuing every voice, medium, and story. From film and dance to visual art and soundscapes, every piece in this exhibition represents the unique perspective of an emerging artist, empowered to experiment and grow in an environment free from gatekeepers. This self-funded exhibition, has become a movement of resilience, featuring: Hand-built furniture made by local volunteers—seven benches, a stage, and more, designed to connect everyone who stepped inside. A cultural space and programme co-designed and co-produced with young creatives @akif.ur @tlnfilms @taja.designs @42braulio & @taylorddacosta , a space without gatekeepers, where emerging creators and communities can freely explore their voices, boundaries, and identities. In partnership with @_recollective_ , Expressions of Resilience exemplifies a commitment to sustainable design. Ninety percent of the materials used to create the exhibition were sourced from recycled film and tv sets, and an impressive 90% of those materials were repurposed post-event. This visionary approach ensures the project not only celebrates creativity but also respects the planet, setting a new standard for responsible design. Together, we’ve reclaimed physical space for real-time creativity, proving that when we connect and create, resilience and unity thrive. Every exhibiting artist, designer, and creative producer was fairly compensated for their contributions, reflecting our commitment to valuing creative labor and fostering equity in the arts. #expression #creativity #collaborativedesign #collaborativeproduction #beyondthebox

So many hands, voices and ideas came together to make the People’s Pavilion 2025 the best one yet. Our new film — Collaboration in Action — captures the energy, teamwork and imagination behind this year’s Pavilion. From bold ideas to shared learning, it’s a celebration of what’s possible when we build together. Sustainability was at the heart of the project: 40% of materials came from Recollective’s pre-used stores 85% of the Pavilion has been repurposed and gifted to local youth organisation Project Zero Watch the full film and explore the story via the link in bio. Too many brilliant collaborators to tag here — check the comments as we celebrate this collective achievement together. 🎥 by @patrickdempsey__ and Ben Parry. #PeoplesPavilion2025 #CollaborationInAction #EquityByDesign #BeyondTheBoxCIC #Placemaking #YouthLed

The future of Crystal Palace National Sports Centre is being shaped by the people who know it best. Our second film for the Future Palace Programme is here. Over the past 7 months, we’ve been bringing together young people, creatives, designers & residents to reimagine the future of Crystal Palace National Sports Centre through workshops, live design ideas, storytelling and design iteration. This isn’t just about sport or design. It’s about culture, identity, opportunity and giving communities a real voice in shaping the spaces around them. Huge love to everyone who’s been part of the journey. 🎥 Watch the film 📍 Crystal Palace National Sports Centre In collaboration with @morgansindallconstruction & @mayorofldn #FuturePalace #BeyondTheBoxCIC #CrystalPalace #DesignInnovators

Still buzzing from yesterday’s event at City Hall. What a way to round off 7 months of work on the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre. At City Hall, our Design Innovators took to the stage for the Future Palace Showcase – sharing bold ideas, thoughtful solutions, and self-made prototypes that reimagine the future of this iconic space. From trackside innovation and lighting concepts, to wayfinding, seating, and water systems – every idea came from young people shaping the spaces around them. This is what it looks like when young voices are given a real platform. Huge thank you to everyone involved in making it happen and our project partners @woo_architects @faulknerbrowns @turkington_martin @alanbaxterltd @maxfordhamllp and @morgansindallconstruction for commissioning the project. 📸 @patrickdempsey__ #FuturePlace #CrystalPalaceNationalSportsCentre #SocialValue #YouthVoice #DesignInnovation

Social value isn’t just something to define. It’s something people should feel. We collaborate with partners to translate strategy into real, on-the-ground impact, through engagement, culture, and meaningful experiences. Connecting intention with tangible action people can see and feel. Our work spans projects including Meridian Water, Thamesmead, South Kilburn, St Raphael’s Estate. Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, Tustin Estate; Euston Tower and beyond. #SocialValue #Impact #Equity #Community #CreativeStrategy

Culture turns space into place. We design and deliver programmes that bring people into a space — creating moments of connection, expression, and belonging. Not just activating places, but shaping how they’re experienced. Because a place only works when it works for the people around it. Our work includes collaborations with Southbank Centre, Barbican, V&A, and programmes such as People’s Pavilion and Festival of the Future. If you’re developing or managing a space, we’d love to collaborate. #Placemaking #Culture #CreativeProgramming #Community #creativity

What does meaningful community engagement actually look like? For us, it starts with creating the right environment, where people feel comfortable, connected, and trust enables people to share openly. Through creative, culturally-led approaches, we bring people together to shape the places and projects around them. This is where real insight begins. Projects include engagement across Broadwater Farm Estate, Tustin Estate, Convent Way, Euston Tower and more, working closely with communities and young people. If you’re working on something and want to engage communities differently, we’d love to connect. #CommunityEngagement #YouthVoice #CreativePractice #SocialImpact #Placemaking

Why create The Living Archive? Because community work often disappears once the project ends. Workshops happen. Spaces are activated. Ideas are shared. But the lived experiences, learning and voices behind those moments are rarely captured. The Living Archive exists to document those experiences — the people who shaped them, the collaborations that made them possible, and the creative processes behind the outcomes. It’s an evolving collection of films that reflect how communities, young people and creative practitioners are helping shape cities, culture and public space. And it will continue to grow. Growing Voices Programmes that support young people and communities to share insight, creativity and leadership. Making Place Together Cultural placemaking initiatives that transform public space through art, architecture and collective creativity. For the past eight years, Beyond the Box has worked alongside young people, communities, designers and cultural organisations to explore a simple but powerful idea: What happens when communities help shape the spaces, culture and opportunities around them? From youth-led architecture projects and cultural festivals to community storytelling and regeneration programmes, each project has been shaped through collaboration, creativity and shared decision-making. Today we’re proud to introduce The Living Archive — a new space on our website that brings together the films documenting this journey. It’s not just a record of what we’ve made. It’s a reflection of the people, partnerships and ideas that continue to shape our work. Eight years. Hundreds of collaborators. One evolving archive.
