Last night was a special moment for me, my family, my team, and our small bakery.
Working in a small and independent bakery is pretty BRUTAL. Itās physically and mentally demanding. We put in long hours on our feet, operate on tight margins, and navigate the uncertainty of the economy. There are nights when I canāt sleep because of the pain in my feet or the worries keeping me awake.
The challenges of being a small business owner can be overwhelming, let alone being an immigrant and minority. BUT we push through anyway.
And itās in those moments, when everything feels like itās easier to walk away and youāre on the edge, that character is truly forged. Itās not when things fall into place, but in setbacks, disappointments, and doubts. Itās choosing to keep going, even when itās hard.
A huge THANK YOU to the Filipino Chamber of Commerce Hawaii, for recognizing me as the Filipino Entrepreneur of the Year 2025. For providing a platform to recognize our hard work.
We ALL show up and serve in different ways, and every kind of dedication deserves to be acknowledged. Iām incredibly proud to represent Filipino entrepreneurs in the food industry. Happy Anniversary to Cristina and Beyond Pastry Studio! ššš„³š„³š„³ BPS is celebrating their anniversary this month on Aug 29th. They opened on Aug 28, 2021.
This artwork is called ʻOhana and is a gift to my dear friend Cristina. It was drawn by the very talented Candice Soon. Thank you @candicedoodles for making my concept a reality! It came out perfect.
Ź»Ohana (Cristina calls it the Zesties) is printed on canvas and commemorates all the friends, family, and staff who have shaped Beyond Pastry Studio into what it is today and will continue to do so in the future. On the Cristinaās right is her wife Alicia and the OGās, in the center is Cristinaās hyperactive girl squad, and on the left are recent friends and staff as the BPS continues to grow. BPS's most popular items are displayed on the table. There are many easter eggs and references in the art. This was a very fun project to work on the last several months. The artwork is also accompanied by a booklet containing messages from Cristinaās family and friends. Thank you everyone who participated. This gift would not be complete without you.
Cristina, the last few years have been a wild ride. Iāve seen BPS grow from a pop up into a studio and then becoming a fully established business in Downtown Honolulu where many come to enjoy your pastries. You have made a mark on Downtown with everything that you do. You have achieved so much and the BPS family and community are all proud of you. Congratulations on your anniversary and we canāt wait to see what the future holds. Hereās to many more!
