Spending billions on fuel stockpiles won't solve Australia's energy vulnerability. The real problem is our deep exposure to global fuel markets and fragile supply chains, a growing risk in today's geopolitical environment. There's a better way. And Australia is uniquely placed to lead it. Our solar and wind resources are among the best on the planet. Harnessed properly, they can fuel a new generation of domestic industry: batteries, wind turbine components, solar inputs, electrified transport. BZE modelling shows capturing just 30–40% of clean energy supply chains could deliver: → $215 billion in cumulative revenue by 2035 → 53,000 new jobs As our CEO Heidi Lee puts it: "Unlike fossil fuels, renewable energy doesn't depend on continuous global supply. Once built, the fuel is domestic, abundant, and immune to international shocks." Energy security, economic resilience, sovereign industry. All within reach. This federal budget must reflect that ambition. 📄 Full report + National Action Plan — link in bio. #CleanEnergy #Australia #EnergyPolicy #RenewableEnergy #AustralianManufacturing #MakeItHere #EconomicResilience #ClimateAction #SolarEnergy #WindEnergy #GreenJobs #FutureOfWork #NetZero #EnergyTransition #BudgetPolicy #BZE #BeyondZeroEmissions #SovereignIndustry #CleanIndustry #FutureMadeInAustralia

In a major commitment to WA's clean energy future, the WA Government has announced $1.4 billion to accelerate the energy transition. Here's what it means and why the details matter. 👇 The fund backs projects included three Clean Energy Link transmission projects — East, North, and Kwinana — connecting renewable generation to Perth and the Western Trade Coast. All three are set to be declared priority projects under the State Development Act 2025 to cut through approvals and speed up construction. Our Chief Researcher Matt McKee notes that the bottleneck now isn't renewable projects in the pipeline, it's getting them built: "What matters now is pace. The electricity grid in the South West already has 160% of the renewable generation needed for 2035 sitting in the development pipeline. The constraint is getting projects through approvals, connection and construction. Declaring the Clean Energy Link projects priority projects under the State Development Act 2025 should genuinely accelerate that, not just on paper." That last phrase matters. Priority status needs to translate into real acceleration, not just a label. On Kwinana, Matt notes: "Beyond Zero Emissions' research shows Kwinana is uniquely placed to become Australia's first Renewable Energy Industrial Precinct. The cluster already underpins $15.7 billion in annual output and 35,000 jobs. Declaring Clean Energy Link – Kwinana a priority project, which unlocks 900 MW of new demand in the Western Trade Coast, is an important step toward realising that vision." And on what this signals to industry: "Australia has some of the best wind and solar resources in the world, and announcements like this give industry the confidence to swing in behind them." Now the work begins. We'll be watching the pace. #CleanEnergy #WesternAustralia #EnergyTransition #Renewables #CleanEnergyLink #CleanIndustry #BZE

What does the Hunter Transmission Project mean for the region's industrial future? 🏭 BZE Board member Rod Henderson joined the ABC Radio’s Upper Hunter breakfast program on Friday to discuss the Hunter Transmission Project - the critical infrastructure needed to connect renewable energy from the New England REZ to the broader grid. With global supply chains under pressure, projects like the HTP aren't just about clean energy. They’re about securing Australia's industrial future, attracting long-term manufacturing investment, and making sure regional communities are at the centre of that growth, not left behind by it. 📑 Download our Powering Up the Hunter report for clear insight into the opportunities available for the region, and explore our National Action Plan, Australia's only open-sourced methodology to track the transition across regions, via the link in our bio. #HunterTransmissionProject #RenewableEnergy #BeyondZeroEmissions #Hunter #SovereignManufacturing #Industry #Jobs

Today's Investor Front Door announcement is a welcome move for Australia's industrial future, four pilot projects with the potential to contribute up to $20 billion across fuel security, critical minerals, zero-emissions freight, and green hydrogen. This is the kind of ambition that can reshape Australia's industrial future. But announcements only deliver if the sequencing is right: generation and transmission, workforce capability, and community confidence all need to move together. That's where BZE's National Action Plan comes in. We built this tool specifically to ensure delivery matches ambition: mapping what each industrial region needs, in what order, and when. 👉 Read our full response to find out what needs to happen next via the link in our bio. #InvestorFrontDoor #NetZero #CriticalMinerals #AustralianIndustry

WA's new wind farm power purchase agreements are a landmark step in the state's clean energy transition. But is the grid keeping up? The transmission lines being built to support these projects will reach capacity before the agreed projects are even completed, leaving the majority of approved generation in the same corridor with no clear path to grid connection. As BZE Chief Researcher Matt McKee puts it: "Australia is building transmission infrastructure right now that isn't sized for our 'Superpower' ambitions." This isn't just a WA problem. BZE is seeing the same pattern nationally. and the cost of getting it wrong now will be far greater than sizing infrastructure correctly from the start. 👉 Read our full statement via the link in our bio

State and Federal support for Rio Tinto’s green ambitions is great! Let’s precinct-size the ambition. Beyond Zero Emissions welcomes the news that Rio Tinto will receive $2 billion in state and federal government support to secure the long-term future of its Boyne aluminium smelter in Gladstone, and that this will involve Rio Tinto’s ongoing support for $7 billion worth of new clean energy projects in the state. However, the transmission being built is sized for the smelter, not the precinct. There is currently support for 2.6 GW of transmission capacity through the Gladstone Project, which is enough to support the Boyne Smelter's renewable power transition. But BZE’s Powering Up Gladstone research shows that a full Gladstone Renewable Energy Industrial Precinct — one that captures the green aluminium, green ammonia, hydrogen and other opportunities — will require at least 6 GW of capacity. The gap is enormous. And it matters because: - 64% of the Renewable Energy Industrial Precinct generation target around Gladstone has already received state development approval — the renewables are there in the pipeline - But only 12% has moved to construction, partly because the transmission to carry that power doesn't exist at the required scale - The SuperGrid South project (the 500 kV inland corridor that would genuinely open the region up) will also be important for long term industrial decarbonisation in the region. - BZE scores Central Queensland's transmission readiness at just 2 out of 5 BZE welcomes this government investment, but the real opportunity is in what comes next. Make the transmission decision at precinct scale, not smelter scale. Read Powering up Gladstone for further analysis on the industrial region’s readiness for renewables via the link in our bio.

A major milestone for Australia’s industrial transformation! We are thrilled to welcome the Federal Government’s announcement regarding the final design of the $5 billion Net Zero Fund (NZF). At Beyond Zero Emissions, our research has consistently shown that for Australia to become a renewable energy superpower, we need capital that acts with speed, flexibility, and conviction. It is fantastic to see the government adopt several core recommendations from our October submission: A Catalytic Mandate and Higher Risk Appetite Focus on Clean Manufacturing Regional Economic Transformation Timing is everything for emerging industries. This new, more flexible approach to public finance will help ensure that future Australian innovators have the support they need at the moment it matters most. A sincere thank you to the Department of Industry, Science and Resources and Minister Tim Ayres for the open and productive consultation process. We look forward to seeing the Net Zero Fund accelerate Australia’s journey to becoming a global leader in renewable manufacturing.
