How do we stop young men from being pulled into harmful ideologies?
At last nightâs
@netflixuk Adolescence premiere, this question hit hard. The series doesnât offer easy answersâit forces us to confront the devastating reality. A young girl murdered. Boys struggling in silence. The unseen toll on their mental health, relationships, and futures.
After the screening, our Head of Facilitation,
@therealbenhurst , led a powerful panel with the showâs actors and writers, diving into these urgent issues.
Jack Thorne put it bluntly:
âInceldom makes sense to people⌠unless we start talking about how boys are being logically abused by these influences, weâre going to be in trouble.â
Heâs right. When boys feel isolated, frustrated, or lost, they seek answers. Too often, they find them in the darkest corners of the internet. Instead of learning how to navigate emotions, relationships, and belonging, they are met with resentment, rage, and radicalisation.
The recent KCL & Ipsos survey proves this isnât a niche issueâyoung men feel increasingly disconnected from conversations about gender equality. Adolescence brings this crisis to life in its most brutal, personal form.
But thereâs hope.
In our workshops, boys want to talkâabout online misogyny, consent, and mental health. They need spaces where they can explore these issues honestly, not lectures that push them further away.
We need action:
đš Regulating tech & social media algorithms that trap boys in toxic echo chambers.
đš Families, schools & communities providing real guidance on relationships & emotional literacy.
đš Equipping parents, teachers & mentors to have tough but essential conversations.
đš Funding experts to run masculinity workshops & train others to do this work effectively.
Beyond Equality and our partners have been leading this charge for decades. Because boys wonât just be boysâthey will be who we support them to be.
So, the real question is: Are we ready to step up for them?
