This is about Emmy who is down on her luck in love, and she falls into a book that she bought from a sex psychic (her sister made her go and see). The book is dedicated ‘For You’ as as she falls into the romantic fictional world, she also falls for the protagonist Will…and he falls for her too.
As Emmy tries to desperately get back to the real world, and try to convince Will that everything around him is fiction, Emmy doesn’t know whether she’ll ever find a love like this in reality.

Today it’s my stop on the book tour for Falling For The Protagonist by @bexgoos
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to fall asleep reading a romance book and wake up in the bed of the lead character, well Emmy is about to find out.
As soon as this book appeared on my radar, I knew it was for me because it’s essentially a book within a book. I loved the concept of the story of the main character falling asleep reading a book and waking up in the middle of the story. It was this concept that made this a unique read for me. The storyline included romance, fake dating and forced proximity with a magical twist.
The first meeting between Emmy and Will was certainly memorable and unforgettable. Emmy wakes up in Will’s bed and Will randomly finds a woman in his bed and neither of them know what’s going on. I loved the connection between Emmy and Will because there was this spark between them from the beginning and it grows as the story progresses. As that spark grows, they become quite attached to each other but their future is uncertain. Emmy is looking to leave the fictional town of Cobalt, Massachusetts but that means leaving Will behind. But Will now also wants to leave after learning he is a fictional character in a story.
Emmy appearing in Cobalt does cause problems for both Emmy and Will. Emmy wants to get back to her real life, her parents and sister who is getting married but that means she will lose Will. Emmy’s appearance in Will’s life turns it upside down because he realises that nothing in his life is real and starts to question everything. But they do also have a positive effect on each other. After Emmy’s last disastrous relationship she meets Will who is the complete opposite of her ex. He likes Emmy for who she is and being with Will does in some ways restore Emmy’s faith in love and relationships. Emmy is also very creative and Will encourages her to pursue her love of gardening. However, Emmy’s mere presence in Cobalt, the decisions she makes and actions she takes starts to change the story around her with consequences that she wasn’t expecting.

Falling for the Protagonist is a whimsical, romantic escape that fully embraces its magical book within a book premise. It’s fun, a little chaotic, and so easy to fall into.
The chemistry between the characters feels natural despite the surreal situation, and the tension. The tone stays playful throughout and the tropes; forced proximity, a touch of spice and the rom‑com vibes were spot on. The banter, the humour, the sweetness were on point too. This book exceeded my expectations, and I can’t wait to see what Bex Goos writes next.
