The Vatican City Pavilion’s project: The Ear is the Eye of the Soul, a soundscape walk-through in the Giardino Mistico. It’s the best thing here among the off-site projects, a glorious and quiet contemplation of nature and spirituality, far away from the noise of the biennale. I wandered in the lovingly tended garden in pouring rain, wearing a state of the art headset which filtered music and sounds accompanying the visual delights. #mustseeandhear #holyseepavilion #theearistheeyeofthesoul #venicebiennale2026

Other than the art, there are the secret gardens and magnificent palazzi, and, of course, the parties #venicebiennale2026 @prattazzi

The extraordinary Samurai exhibition at the British Museum: the first half is like plunging into another world, full of violence and wonder: it trails off at the end, where the myth surrounding the samurai is examined. My favourite painting was a rare 1585 portrait of Itō Mancio, a 13-year-old (!) who led the first Japanese delegation to Europe, including Venice (photo 10&11) which was widely reported in Europe. Hard to imagine a teenager doing this now. Painted by Domenico Tintoretto, this portrait highlights the 1582 Tenshō embassy, where four young Japanese noblemen met the Pope and kings, illustrating early, pivotal cultural exchanges #samurai #samuraijapan #britishmuseumlondon

Happy Easter all of you! An alumnus from Marlborough College sent this to me this evening, and I was astonished when I opened it: me, on a walk in 1974! That‘s 52 years ago. I haven‘t seen him since. His email read: “I‘m pretty sure you‘re happy, healthy and have a good life - but this is how I remember you. Smoky - in a good way.” Thank you and 📷 by Peter O‘Rorke #photofromthepast #marlboroughcollege #alumna1973-75 #memoriesforlife❤️

Listening to Jazz at the Mother-in-law lounge in Treme, New Orleans, Kermit Ruffren on trumpet (with the hat); Irvin (Knuckles) Mayfield (Grammy winner) on piano, electric guitar and trumpet. The beautiful youngster is Kermit’s grand-daughter, already a singer #motherinlawloungewecoming #tremeneworleans
