Some new work of mine showing at The Island right now! At our show Between Dreams and Tomorrow. @theislandbristol ‘Cycle Through the Clear Night’ ‘Go up a hill, get on a Train’ Exploring an imagined folklore of a creature that knows everything-yet nothing at all, this work deals with existential questions and highlights a greater, collective connection we have to the earth and to each other. You are brought along to a midnight cycle ride, up a hill and on a train journey. Captured in circular frames, we are separated from the spaces, similar to the experience of looking at far away planets. Becoming a spectator of these moments, we distance ourselves and decentralise human perspectives. Recreating sounds of the breath with a bike pump, you are prompted to question where we draw separations between human, animal and object.

In these uncertain times, can art be used as a tool to build community, cultivate discussion and demonstrate the possibility for change? This exhibition presents works which offer alternative narratives to an increasingly divided world. The hopes, the fears, the thoughts, the non-thoughts, the dreams, the utopias, and the dystopias. What can we learn from each other, ourselves, and the natural world? Bringing our imaginative potential together can reveal our ability to do the same in society. There will be an art stall and a donation bar to fundraise for the Sameer project, an aid initiative led by Palestinians in the diaspora. They work to supply emergency shelter and aid to displaced families in Gaza. The project seeks to provide for the areas most in need and return “agency and self-reliance” to families, providing for their specific needs.
