i’m such a private person - it’s taken me a few years to put myself out there because i’ve considered most of my work as scatterbrained hobbies i’ve picked up as coping mechanisms to escape in when the real world would hurt too much. having close friends approach me with inquiries about doing large scale stuff i’ve finally felt myself being pulled in a direction that’s given me real purpose and their confidence in my ability has given me confidence to pursue my dreams. ive since realized that it’s my job to put myself out there and entering the city papers best of was the first step. i am so thankful and grateful and humbled by all the support. so much love.

i saw a small version of this on pinterest and i thought if i could build a jumbo one, it would make for a great statement piece in @pinkdynamitedc . my first attempt was with a mirror that was about a foot bigger, and it was a fiasco. i was not going to let these golden girls best me, so here is proof of hanging the unhangeable, in a much more manageable size.

i saw a website boasting their win in the DC City Paper’s Best of 2024 and so out of curiosity i took a look to see who won in the best visual artist category this year
.. and it was me. i can’t believe it, i had no idea. i’m absolutely floored. i’m so grateful, the support means more to me than you know.
i’m two for two now- time to get to work so i can take this title again next year for a third time!
i can’t tell you how many times something simple has blown up in my face, so as i’m nearing the completion of this galaxy basement something as mundane as putting a sealant on was filling me with trepidation over ruining the hours of layering on FX paint i’ve put into these walls. for once it’s all going as i imagined it would and i could practically do cartwheels- the sealant is evening out the sheens and adding so much depth to the colors, and i’ve even managed to successfully incorporate the way the light comes in from the basement window on to the nebula which creates beautiful color shifts depending on the time of day in keira’s future art/play area. hopefully i’ll figure out how to photograph all this properly because this footage just isn’t doing it justice. a sneek peek >>>

wild & wonderful tatooine

one of the objectives i had was to explore different ways of creating form and perspective utilizing color and direction and thickness of the stripes. kinda like optical illusions to create the shift in the dunes, etc as a way to paint a desertous tatooine that wasn’t just another landscape painting - but more like you’re being plunged into this whole different world. super satisfying to see the outcome of all the hours spent hunched over doing line work finally lend itself to overall scope of this star wars psychedelia.
