Turning Ghost Pokemon into Nightshade Vegetables! GET IT? I do everything for a reason, even when what I'm doing is drawing Gengar as an Eggplant.
The last slide is a preview of my digital workflow (and some spoilers for future pokemon). Before I pick up my paintbrush, I always make what I call a "digital rough" version of my paintings. I find there are different strengths to sketching digitally and traditionally so I ping pong back and forth often but I always like to have a clear plan before I get the expensive paper out.
Ghost pepper Haunter was especially difficult to pull off- you can see I tried to make him both a tomato and a nightshade berry before moving onto pepper and even now he gets called a pumpkin. I did my best.

Food versions of Snorlax, Cubone, Krabby, Psyduck, and Eevee! Coming up with concepts for these paintings is so fun. Sometimes it pops in my head, sometimes I have to go through hours of sketching bad ideas first, and sometimes I stream on Twitch and chat suggests gold. Snorlax Sourdough Starter was one of those suggestions and it STILL makes me laugh.
Cubone Broth and Hot Dog Crabby were lightning strikes of inspiration whereas Eevee took months of ideation (and I still might revise her to be a raw potato considering what I want to do with the evolutions...)
Psyduck on the other hand, was a joke. A 5 second sketch that I did as a bit but I fell in love with the bit and now he's my favorite drawing.

We're turning Pokemon into food. If Bulbasaurs are fruit and Charmanders are cheese/meat, then Squirtles have to be nuts in order to finish out the charcuterie board! Because they're starters! Get it?

I drew my fruit Bulbasaur after admiring other artists drawing him as alternative Pokemon types like fire and ghost. His seed reminded me of a pomegranate so with that in my head, I started sketching. By the time I lifted my pen, I had six new friends on the page.
They stayed hidden in my sketchbook for years until they were discovered by some other artists I had met while helping out at a convention in 2022. With their encouragement, I began selling them and the rest is history.
The Pokepantry started with these six Bulbasaur and they've brought so much joy to people around the country. Loving the most unpopular starter turned out to be the most rewarding choice š
I draw Pokemon as food! Charmander is the most popular of the Gen 1 starters and I have to admit that as a Bulbasaur lover, I've always had a chip on my shoulder when it comes to these toasty lizards. Perhaps that's why these designs are an itty bitty bit sadistic.
