Had a fantastic week at the Australian Ceramics Triennale filled with all things ceramics.
The biggest highlight for me was the opening of the Under Fire: Clay from the Western Edge exhibition at the Fremantle Arts Centre.
The display of my work was exactly as I dreamed of! I’m still on a high!!!
I cannot thank enough our curator Emma Buswell, Fremantle Arts Centre Installations Coordinator Tom Freeman and the whole install team for making it all happen.
And thank you to all my friends and followers for joining me for the opening.
The exhibition is on until Sunday 2nd November. It’s an incredible range of works by 18 ceramicists from across Western Australia showing how diverse this medium that we love so much is! Do not miss it!!!

Just wanted to wish you all a lovely Christmas and New Year. THANK YOU so much for continuing to follow along my journey of making. This has been such a huge year for my practice and I appreciate your support. Every comment here or at the markets, every little purchase and even every loving caress that my work attracts goes a long way.
I’m now on a well-deserved and much- needed break but my mind is already buzzing with new ideas and I can’t wait to get back to it in the new year. 😊
A big thank you to everyone who came by to support us at the Fremantle Bazaar Makers Market. It means so much. Our joint stall, Ceramics by Danica and Beste, has been part of this market for 12 years now and we love seeing familiar faces, new collectors and people popping in for a chat.
If you missed out, we’re both selling directly through our online shops, and you’re always welcome to get in touch to visit the studio and see the work in person.
Wishing you all the very best for the festive season ahead.
Danica and Beste
Danica and I are very happy to be at @fremantleartscentre Bazaar for the 12th consecutive year this December.
The first 2 years we were part of the Clay House Team with the amazing @fleurschell and since 2016, we’ve been doing it as a duo through pregnancies, then babies and toddlers in tow.
Both our works have evolved over the years, keeping it fresh with new additions to our range and we love sharing them with you every year at the beautiful grounds of Fremantle Arts Centre.
Hope to see you all again this year! Save the dates👇

As we get to the busiest time of the year, we potters are working around the clock and every cm2 of kiln space is precious. Loading for bisque firing can be especially tricky as the bone-dry work is extremely fragile. As I don’t want to mess up the super smooth surface of my plates, I can’t just push them on the kiln shelf to fit into a tight space like this one. So I use this trick of using a piece of cellophane. Some people use paper but I find that cellophane is more slippery so it works better. 😉

I decided to make matcha bowls when in recent months random people passing by my studio started asking if I made any 😳
I find traditional matcha bowls too chunky (no offence!) and when have I ever made anything traditional looking anyway. So this is my version of a matcha bowl… (I actually modified one of my boulder moulds for this. All my explorations for ‘Studies in Black’ have changed the way I see forms and moulds now. 😎)
The form is tilted for ease of picking it up with one hand. (It does require two hands to pour the whole matcha to a cup just like traditional ones.) Although I prefer matt finishes, I glazed the inside halfway, just enough so the bristles of the bamboo whisk do not get damaged. The smooth chiseled exterior is a reference to its boulder origin. I shape the spout for each one individually so no two are the same.
I’ve only made it in plain colours for now but you can always order it marbled too.
I like things I make to be multifunctional so I think this would also work well to prepare and serve salad dressings, sauces and even gravy. 😉
The first few are coming with me to @mtclaremontfarmersmarket this Saturday.
They’re also now available online.

UNDER FIRE - Clay from the Western Edge Exhibition opens tomorrow at the Frementle Arts Centre as part of the 2025 Australian Ceramics Triennale.
I’m thrilled to be part of this incredible exhibition featuring 18 ceramicists from across Western Australia.
I’ve made 21 sculptural works using a single mould. This is my first big body of sculptures and I’m so excited to showcase them in the amazing space of WFAC that I cannot wipe the grin off my face! 🙈🤩

All those who asked for a cup that’s a size between an espresso and a flat white cup, here you go!!
Perfect size for a macchiato, matcha, small long black and in my case Turkish coffee but I’ll come back to that later.
Hubby declared it his new favourite cup and swiftly claimed one as his Father’s Day present 😊 These will also make their debut at @perthupmarket this Sunday 14th September. Change of location: I’ll be UPSTAIRS at Winthrop Hall.
I have affectionately called this cup TELVE as a tribute to my mum and her love of endless Turkish coffee. 🥰 She says other coffees don’t count until she has her Turkish coffee in the morning 🤣 And ‘telve’ means the coffee grounds left at the bottom of the cup. Of course this cup is actually too big for it BUT that is intentional!
Turkish coffee is served boiling hot, which makes it very hard to drink in a cup without a handle or a saucer. I don’t like handles or saucers so I made the cup bigger instead - at half full it’s easy to hold even when boiling hot 😁 (as you can see in this reel)

It’s been over a year that people have been asking me whether I’d make butter dishes as they cannot find a ‘nice’ one in the market. Well the wait is finally over!!! 😊
Sorry it took me a while to recognise the need. 😱As a true Aegean, I’m used to having at least 10 Litres of good olive oil at home at any time (Seriously! I panic if there’s less than 3L!) but butter has never been a breakfast staple. Growing up I remember it more as small shavings served on ice at dinner at my grandparents’ country club. Even now I use it more to cook with than on toast.
Nevertheless, I’ve done my research and you were right; it is indeed very hard to find a butter dish that’s not as chunky as a brick. 😬
So I made one! 😎
It’s small and elegant enough to easily hold in one hand and fits 125g of butter - just enough for a week to keep on the table even in the middle of summer. The plain colours have horizontal etched lines for a better grip.
These will make their debut at @perthupmarket this Sunday 14th September. Heads up! I will be at a different location this time - UPSTAIRS at Winthrop Hall.

This one has become one of my favourites!
Not only because I love whales but I think it turned out so well despite getting toppled on in the kiln 😬 Luckily I was able to save it!
For those who have missed my stories, here’s how I made the barnacles with vinegar etching. Sorry I did not start recording from the beginning but it takes a while for the vinegar to start doing its thing.
