Before we drop the ‘Ordinary Badman’ LP later this month, we’d like to highlight some of our favourite Hugh B tracks to date.
Hugh founded Outer Time Inner Space (OTIS) records, a brick and mortar shop in Chippendale, NSW in 2015. The store became a local hangout instantly and had a short and sweet run.
By 2017, OTIS had shifted into label mode, becoming a home for Hugh and a growing circle of peers and collaborators.
Enjoy the selections below. If you like what you hear, there’s plenty more to dig through on the OTIS Bandcamp page — and apparently a bit more on the way, too.
Hugh B & Setwun - Yeah Definitely
OTIS, 2020
Hugh B - Low Pressure System
OTIS, 2018
Hugh B - Transition State (with Jon Watts)
OTIS, 2021
Hugh B - Things Can Only Get Worse
Not Not Fun, 2023
Hugh B - Another View (Second Evolution)
OTIS 2017
Tunnel Dancers - Patterns & Systems

Hugh B - Soul Running
Repeat Concrete, 2020

Next Best Effort release ‘Ordinary Badman’ by Hugh B is around the corner 👀
Hugh sent me this album before my bike ride to school one morning and it was love at first listening. Very glad to have been able to work with Hugh on a release after being a longtime fan and friend. Make sure you check out his impressive back catalogue and OTIS records if you’re still uninitiated.
More info soon but for now you can hear two songs on bandcamp, cop a test pressing or preorder the album in digi or vinyl formats. It’ll be out around the end of the month
Much love to Hugh for all the great tunes and conversations over the years ❤️

Yunzero has been drip feeding from his personal collection of edits over the last few years. Breaking from the usual DJ tool mold, ‘Edits’ evokes the spirit of J Dilla’s through short-form reworks that completely reimagine their source material with surreal confidence and skill.
Yunzero is a longtime fixture of the local underground. He plays bass in the warped pop group Cloud Ice 9, and is part of dummy tree, an improvisational supergroup known for their shape-shifting live sets. Across all his projects, there’s a throughline of playful unpredictability and deep sonic curiosity.
Yunzero’s past releases on West Mineral Ltd, Lillerne Tapes and .jpeg Artefacts have placed him in the company of some of experimental music’s most forward-thinking artists. ‘Edits’ is a wild detour, but not unexpected.

The last entry into the Interior Music series was in October 2022 - 3 whole years ago. Two new long form pieces by Ex Ponto and Ben Bondy are now on Bandcamp and streaming services.
Interior Music 013
Ex Ponto
Ivan Masic is a Melbourne-based artist working at the intersection of sound design, projection, and the moving image under the alias Ex Ponto. His practice explores the insoluble intimacy between music, light and place through immersive, site-responsive works. His work spans soundtracks for documentaries, installation design, and live performance, as well as co-directing Little Projector Company — delivering cinematic, site-based art experiences.
Interior Music 014
Ben Bondy
Ben Bondy is a Berlin‐based producer whose ambient work draws from a background steeped in field recordings, vaporous textures, dub techno undertones. Bondy has become a central figure in contemporary ambient and experimental electronics, with acclaimed releases on influential imprints such as West Mineral Ltd., Good Morning Tapes, Quiet Time Tapes, and Experiences Ltd. His discography spans immersive solo works like Glans Intercum and Camo, as well as collaborative projects with peers including uon, Pontiac Streator, Huerco S., Exael, and Special Guest DJ.
Interior Music is an ongoing series which collects long form compositions intended for sleep, meditation, relaxation and enjoyment.
All releases in the series will be ‘pay what you like’. All supporter payments for this music (minus bandcamp/paypal fees) will be donated to charity. For the moment, that charity is the Dhadjowa Foundation. Artists are paid through streaming royalties and a label advance.

“A tropical fish yearns for snow”, @other__joe tells me. Wanting what you can’t imagine. Wanting the very thing that would make your life inhospitable.”
As the release of Joe’s latest album ‘Flawless’, released by @besteff0rt , draws nearer, his close friend @emilefrankel provides a perspective on the artist that few outside of his world would ever know.
“If, like Plain Jane, Other Joe implies a placeholder for a common body, what kind of sentiment (offered with self-awareness) is expressed in a name that evokes not just an allness but a nothingness too?”

Greetings,
This account has been dormant for over a year. Running a label can sometimes take up a bit of time + effort, two things which have been handed over to other projects in the past year. In April 2024 my partner Steph and I signed the lease to a place on Sydney Road, Brunswick which is now called Tender.
@tender_place_
Tender is an architecturally designed (by Steph), acoustically treated space offering yoga classes, a listening room, live music, workshops, exhibitions, film screenings and whatever else people want to do there. Send us an email if you’d like to do something with us!
So far we have hosted about 20 deep listening sessions, Chee Shimizu, Tunnel Dancers, Special Guest DJ & Ben Bondy with many more music makers/players to come thru over the next few months. Stop by and listen to some music sometime. It sounds really really great in there.
News on the next Best Effort release arriving imminently…
many thanks, many blessings
Nik
