I’m bad at social media. I went off of it cold turkey a few years ago and am working my way back slowly. Trying to make up for lost time so I slapped together some of my “hearted” pix from the last 4 months and am enjoying not placing them in order. The headline is that I am overjoyed to be an aunt once again thanks to the uterus of @sophiekargman and the upstream swimmers of @farhoudifitness . I’m also thrilled that the film that took nearly four years to direct, Diane Warren: Relentless, is crushing it with new awards along with a 2026 Grammy nomination. Go team! I am in shock and disbelief over the passing of one of the stars of my first film, First Position. Michaela DePrince you will be missed by the millions of fans you have inspired through your dance, your personal story, and the biographies you published after the film was released. A beautiful soul has left this earth at only 29 - it makes no sense. I am thinking of all of her family during this difficult time, and for the friends she left behind at Boston Ballet, in the Netherlands, at YAGP, and The Rock School for Dance Education. You will be missed, my dear Michaela. You will be missed.
Last week was a dream. After three years of production (exhausting, impossible, and glorious) we premiered Diane Warren: Relentless at SXSW Film Festival 2024. Making films (and telling stories) is my passion - even in this terrible marketplace where fewer and fewer documentaries are getting made - I can’t think of anything else I’d rather do.
After several years of getting 2nd place, my friend Karen Kuo Chou finally won the brisket competition at Los Angeles Tennis Club’s Latke Night. So proud of my Chouish friend for beating the competition and taking home the W. It’s a much bigger trophy than any of the tennis tournament trophies - and equally difficult to obtain.
Today you are 4, my beautiful boy. Maxou we love you more than you’ll ever know. Last year you wanted a leaf blower and this year it was a lawn mower. Noticing a theme here. Happy birthday to cuz @fletchkargman too!!
