Our volunteers take any opportunity to spread the life-saving message of secure gun storage. Here’s just a few examples of what they’ve been up to:
🏥 Hawai'i volunteers tabled at the Hawaiʻi Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics conference to provide health care professionals with secure storage info they can share with their patients and their families.
🏅South Dakota volunteers in Rapid City tested out their new prize wheel (a hit!) at the Rapid City Area Schools Pow Wow!
🔐 Iowa volunteers spoke to over 75 families in Des Moines and gave out 20 free gun locks to gun owners at the West Des Moines Preschool Palooza.
✏️ South Carolina volunteers shared secure gun storage information with families at the Richland School District One Family Experience!
🩺 Illinois South Suburban volunteers joined the Health & Safety Expo in New Lenox to make sure secure gun storage is top of mind.
🧶 Maryland volunteers in Frederick went to the Children’s Festival and had a great time doing crafts with the kids!

Be SMART in Kansas! Volunteers in Winfield shared secure gun storage information and read their favorite books at the Cowley County Read and Roll. In Douglas County, our volunteers ensured all were safe AND warm by sharing secure storage information and cute little hats for the babies at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Growing Together event! 📚🔐

Today on National Doctor’s Day, we celebrate physicians, like Dr. Sofia Chaudhary, who are working to keep our children safe from gun violence by educating families about the importance of secure gun storage.
Roughly once a day, a child under the age of 18 accesses a gun and unintentionally shoots themselves or someone else. @besmartforkids volunteers like Sofia are working to change that.

In a country awash in easily accessible guns, the safety of our children is always at risk. Adults play a critical role in protecting kids. That means securing firearms—stored unloaded, locked, and kept separate from ammunition.
One simple step can prevent another young life from being taken or forever changed.
A teen is facing felony weapons charges after discharging a gun inside a restroom at Klein Collins High School in Spring, Texas. No word on who the gun belonged to or how the student gained access to it.
The onus is on adults to ensure children and teens don’t gain access to guns. This can be done by taking a few simple steps to secure guns in homes and vehicles, stored unloaded, locked, and separate from ammunition.
The responsibility to prevent children from accessing guns belongs to the adults who own them. Kids are curious, and it’s not enough to hide them or put them “out of reach.” We can prevent unintentional shootings and save lives with secure gun storage.
Earlier this month the Dayton Chapter of @besmartforkids received an invitation to table at the Dayton Public School’s Family Wellness Day. They talked to numerous parents, applied lots of tattoos, and gave away 39 gun locks. Thank you Dayton BeSmart volunteers! 🐝 ❤️
