Hi friends, November was a whirlwind month! For those who celebrate, I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving. And generally, I hope everyone is having a wonderful and easeful autumn. I am so beyond grateful for all of your support. Wendy, my community (you!), and the medical team at Remedy were top of mind for me this Thanksgiving. I’m thrilled to report that Wendy is recovering amazingly post-surgery. She’s more energetic, talkative, and playful than she has been in a long time - it’s like the surgery shaved 10 years off of her age. While it’s impossible to know exactly how long the meningioma was growing next to her brain, it is apparent that the surgery has given her a huge boost in quality of life. In the days before surgery, she could barely walk. Now, she’s bounding up and down the stairs, chasing after toys, and climbing to the top level of her cat tree. Some little anecdotes from Wendy’s 1st month post-surgery: When I took her to get her sutures removed, one of the nurses at Remedy Veterinary Specialists gifted her a handmade little pom pom hat! The care and love the Remedy team has for Wendy is unbelievably sweet, and is more than I could have ever hoped for. I can’t recommend them enough! I brought Wendy to Ransom’s place in the forest, an excursion we’ve been aspiring to for a while, and were afraid might never happen when we thought we were losing her. Wendy loved it! We introduced her to the Mother Tree that lives near Ransom’s cottage, and Wendy confidently explored on leash amongst the roots and fallen logs, lay down in the redwood duff, and inspected a newt as it crawled along the forest floor. Wendy was the life of the party during my house’s Friendsgiving. In the middle of all the hustle and bustle, chair legs, and human legs, she leapt and danced after her new favorite toy (a spiraled up pipe cleaner that I stuck to the end of a string-on-stick). Every new memory with Wendy is priceless, and fills me with so much gratitude, love, and awe. Thank you all for being part of this journey with us! With love, bernice & wendy 📸 1: @ranmow_

i’ll be vending at @quartzoakland tomorrow in oakland! 💖 i’ve been spending a lot of time at home in the last few weeks, taking care of wendy both pre- and post-brain surgery. and one thing that’s been filling my time and my cup is a lot of art-making! i’ll have fan favorites like my angry ducky prints and cat stickers, plus lots of new stuff like prints from this summer’s art residency in France, plant-iful new earrings, and watercolor greeting cards. plus, gently loved items from my personal closet that are ready for a new home! hope to see you there 🌱 flier by @mrsandmann

on october 30, my dear friend and familiar, wendy, underwent emergency brain surgery to remove a meningioma tumor that was pressing on her brain. in the week leading up to her surgery, wendy began rapidly deteriorating. usually chatty and social, she became reclusive, silent, and increasingly wobbly. she couldn’t walk in a straight line, and spent most of her time hiding in my closet. thankfully, the surgery has completely given her a new lease on life. the last few days have been an emotional rollercoaster to say the least - i’ve gone from preparing myself to say goodbye to her, to overwhelming gratitude, joy, and amazement at modern medicine and her incredible resilience. while pet insurance will fortunately cover 80% of the vet bills, i’m still on the hook for a 4-figure co-insurance bill. as a working artist, any support will go a long way. i’ve linked a gofundme in my bio 🙏 thanks for reading, and hug your furry friends tight 💖
