A new arrival in the collection presentation: @bernhardwillhelm ’s graduation collection, presented at the fashion department at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp in 1998.
Here, the German fashion designer was inspired by Little Red Riding Hood: the forest through which she wanders leaves its mark on her wardrobe. An embroidered spider crawls across her woollen jumpsuit, while the geometric motif of a roll-neck sweater echoes the structure of foliage. Leaf-shaped headpieces with red veins complete the silhouettes. Even the leather mules are inspired by animal paw prints.
Willhelm’s fondness for folklore is also reflected in his later collections, through the frequent and experimental use of handicrafts such as embroidery, knitting and crochet.
