Widely recognised as a leading voice in contemporary SĂĄmi music, Johan Sara Jr. comes to Troldhaugen on Saturday 14 March to present the first live performance of his chamber work The Eight SĂĄmi Seasons!
In this rehearsal glimpse, Japanese pianist Marina Matsuoka joins forces with Bergen Strings to bring Sara Jrâs musical vision to life, blending tradition, innovation, and the rhythms of northern Norway into an immersive concert experience.

We are excited and proud to be presenting SĂĄmi culture in our programme again this year!
Today we continue the reveal with two unique works: Nana NannĂĄn â Solid Soil by Sara Marielle Gaup and The Eight SĂĄmi Seasons by Johan Sara Jr.
Both projects invite audiences into a space of deep connection with the natural world, exploring the rhythms, cycles, and energies that shape SĂĄmi life and traditions.
From the intimate listening experience of Nana NannĂĄn â Solid Soil in the listening hut Jiennagoahti, where Gaup translates the melodies of nature into sound, to the sweeping chamber music journey of The Eight SĂĄmi Seasons at Troldhaugen, which mirrors the seasonal rhythms of reindeer herding and northern landscapes, these works immerse listeners in the sensory and emotional landscapes of SĂĄpmi.
Together, they showcase the innovative, living expression of SĂĄmi music â rooted in cultural heritage, yet forging new paths for contemporary musical storytelling.

I dag fortsetter vi programlanseringen med to unike verk: Nana NannĂĄn â Solid Soil av Sara Marielle Gaup og GĂĄvcci jahkodaga / Ă tte samiske Ă„rstider av Johan Sara Jr. Begge prosjektene inviterer publikum inn i et rom for dyp kontakt med naturen, og utforsker rytmene, syklusene og energiene som former samisk liv og tradisjon.
Fra den intime lytteopplevelsen Nana NannĂĄn â Solid Soil i lyttehytten Jiennagoahti, hvor Gaup oversetter naturens melodier til lyd, til det storslĂ„tte kammermusikalske verket GĂĄvcci jahkodaga / Ă tte samiske Ă„rstider i Troldhaugen, som speiler de sesongbaserte rytmene i reindrift og nordlige landskap, lar disse verkene publikum tre inn i SĂĄpmi gjennom sanser og fĂžlelser.
Sammen viser de det innovative og levende uttrykket i samisk musikk â forankret i kulturarv, men som samtidig baner nye veier for samtidsmusikkens fortellinger.
