🇻🇳 my new go-to spot for my Viet food faves until I become a sumo @bep.sumo
Bep Sumo is the newest kid on the block in St Albans who specialises in not only com tam (Vietnamese broken rice) but also their social media marketing magic and skit 🤡 but no compromise on their authenticity and flavours of Vietnam.
🍜 hu tieu mi kho (Vietnamese dry noodles) 4/5 (altgt 4.5/5, meat 3.5/5)
🐠 bun mam (Vietnamese fish noodle soup) 4.4/5
🦀 banh canh cua (Vietnamese crab tapioca noodle soup) 4.6/5
🐖 com tam dac biet (pork chop, shredded pork, cha lua) 4/5 (everything 4.5/5, pork 3.8/5)
🍵 matcha w cold foam (matcha 🫥, cream top 4/5)
🍓 fruit teas 3.5/5 too sweet but v refreshing!
Loved the flavour balance and the sauces here. Honesly every slurp was so rich and full of flavour, every rice grain and noodle was coated and generous. The hu tieu mi kho usually has a thicker sauce but I didn’t mind this one. Pork mince I’d like a bit of caramelisation of more juiciness.
Whilst the pork on their signature com tam broken rice was super flavourful, it was lacking the smoky charred features that your traditional ones have. But the highlight would have to be their 🦀 banh canh cua. I think I finally found the one closest to the one I had near my grandma’s house in Vietnam and the other hearty rich heaven sent bowls in Ho Chi Minh city on a hot scorching day ☀️
Would I go back? For $21 and a huge bowl like that (mind you, we could only finish 2.5 out of 4 bowls), absolutely.

Throwback to grand opening day☺️
Mum walked out with her hands full of dockets,
not thinking about success, just worried if everyone got enough food and if the flavours were right.
No big celebration, no showing off… just a tired Vietnamese mum feeling thankful that people came, ate her food, and supported her dream.
That’s Vietnamese mum energy
work first, smile after, gratitude always.
This humble moment will be cemented as the beginning of her legacy, the dream turned to reality, Bếp Sumo🙏❤️
A message from our loving mother and owner ❤️🔥
Bếp Sumo began in the quiet of our family home during Covid — just a dream, a kitchen, and a woman who refused to stop. Mum cooked every weekend after gruelling shifts of her full-time job, serving hundreds of meals with nothing but passion, sweat, and the belief that Vietnamese food deserves to be shared with the world.
What started as survival became a movement.
What started as a dream… is now reality.
