Last day in Santa Marta and got to hang with @ren_hacer .. Artist of Trash! Making visual magic from the excess of human. Her place is a store, cafe and hub for sustainability. Amongst the recycled materials is posters, books, pamphlets and flyers. If only my Spanish was better I could tell you more about this radiant being.
THE Northern most point of South America: Wayuu land allowed us to pass with the help of a new friend Luis. He navigated through hours of desert trails and winding dunes all the while giving snacks to the children-guarded roads, who blockade travelers in order to eat. The desert is harsh and unforgiving and beautiful and mystical and mysterious. As we reached our resting place for the night we found a baby goat estranged from her mom. After nursing her back to health with a bottle all night, Luis packed her in his bag and drove through the desert once again. The whole journey i was joking that the only thing more epic would be if we had our motos in a boat in the Caribbean Sea... well it happened! Juans moto broke down in the middle of the desert so Luis convinced a boat to help us get a little closer to home. After that I detroit-towed him another 4hrs thru winding trails and salt flats.
Where the desert meets the Caribbean Sea is a magical place.. headed to the northern most point of South America. Here the roads are blockaded by communities where instead of paying a toll, we have to bring food in order to pass.
High in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, cascades and waterfalls are abundant in the destination. Itās cicada season, so thereās deafening tones of drones and dissonant chords that make swimming in the rivers of this dense jungle all the more sci-fi.
A cactus thriving in the Highest Coastal Mountains in the world. Hanging in Taganga, a ānotorious drug portā, but so far all Iāve seen is fresh caught fish and incredible people. Thereās a lot of refugees from Venezuela here with heartbreaking stories of an entire country losing everything. Amazed at their ability to transition amidst such turmoil, holding joy throughout the day.
Today we went to pick up the š we bought .. but Colombian bureaucracy thwarted our thirst for exhilaration. Luckily @juankixote wasnāt disheartened and we escaped to an island of wonder. šāØ Of course our journey concluded with a boat ride at sunset back to Cartagena. So ok, I guess magic is still alive .. maƱana es un dia nuevo. šØš“āØ
