May Newsletter is LIVE *LINK IN BIO* for more… My trio with Chris and Leon had an EPIC two days of tracking in the studio last month and we got everything down! So, we have a potentially tremendous record on our hands that still needs mixing and mastering. This was probably the most difficult recording of my career so far and also the absolute BEST! This current album I am working on is probably the deepest dive into my imagination and heart of hearts that has ever been rendered in any audio format. I can’t wait to share this material with you! I have no idea how this path forward will reveal itself but I have to believe a way will emerge. This endeavor has already taken everything I’ve got and then some yet I feel supercharged, nourished, and thoroughly on mission! I still need help. I still need support. In all the ways. Well we did the thing!!! Two inspiring, harrowing, tedious, and ultimately fulfilling days tracking in the studio the hardest stuff I’ve ever recorded. Thanks to Leon, Chris, Joel, and Daryl for the hard work, friendship, and good vibes! Now if I can just figure out getting this thing mixed and mastered, we’ll be in good shape. TLDR Alert! Tomorrow these guys will go into the studio to record an important chunk of my overall body of work. The Activator Trio material is a collection and culmination of instrumental vehicles for self expression which bridge jazz, r&b, punk, blues, trip hop, electronica, funk, heavy metal, and beyond. This music came to me during different peak moments over the past 22 years and has pushed my concepts of music as well as my own musical abilities to their absolute brink. I can only hope that this music has equally challenged and enriched Leon and Chris and that listeners will both expand their awareness and feel something new and deep from this work. I see all human expression as deeply interconnected and it has been my mission to express and expand upon those connections - as I experience them - in my own work. While on the surface, some might find my work “abstract,” “experimental,” “avant-garde,” etc, I assure you this work has deep roots in various traditions and is meant to challenge our perceptions and nourish our depth of emotion rather than to befuddle. This is an important step in a long journey for me. Survival has always taken everything I can muster which is why I launched a GoFundMe fundraiser for this album in February. While I am still at about a third of my ultimate goal, I have received enough to get started. We will share tidbits and documentation throughout the week. Welp! Biting the bullet here. Next week (Mon, Feb 16) is my birthday and I’m hereby launching a fundraiser for my next album. Please read on! *LINK IN BIO* #guitar #gofundme #newalbumcomingsoon My name is Ben Tyree. I am a guitarist based in NYC who has been active in the music industry since the mid-90s. I have worked with tons of amazing artists and traveled all over the world. Since 2018, I have led the psych-jazz Activator Trio with Leon Gruenbaum and Chris Eddleton and it’s high time we record our debut album (to be titled either The Language of Light or Magic for Musical Misfits - you decide!). We played a bunch of shows in 2025 and the music is really ready to go. Since independent artists and labels survive month to month, by hook or by crook, I will need a good chunk of change to get this next album out there. This next effort will represent my life’s work as a musician and guitarist and it is important that I record and release in order to move this journey forward. Your help will cover production and manufacturing costs (including my first ever vinyl run for the release) as well as a decent PR campaign. We can’t keep putting off the things that are most important to us. I have needed to record this material for a while but the timing couldn’t be more apt.
