Making it to Iwo Jima is difficult enough, but to make it to the top of Mt. Suribachi with World War II veterans who were on the island 81 years ago is a once in a lifetime experience. In honor of grandparent’s day, here is the first one minute of the interview I conducted with my grandpa before he passed. This was somewhere around 8 years ago. It took me a long time to finally look at the footage and put it together, and it was an emotional experience to do so. But I’m glad I did, and I plan on doing the same with other relatives.

Long days filled with purpose and meaning. Doing the thing I love to do with people I enjoy being around. Nonstop laughs and all-nighters. It doesn’t do justice to the feeling of being there, but hopefully it comes somewhat close.
