My newfound obsession with wood has led me to the writings of James Krenov, renowned cabinetmaker. I recently finished his first book A Cabinetmaker’s Notebook and was so delighted to find someone that has such a sharply similar concept of what it means to be a craftsperson. I just started this, his second book, The Fine Art of Cabinetmaking, and this first paragraph is a finely toned summary of that meaning. Nice to find new inspiration for my upcoming journey into woodworking. Who’s to say where it’ll lead, but the journey there is the whole point.
Built this gate from fallen redwood that I milled with a chainsaw, with help from @cheerioskid58 , ripped with a circular saw and processed with a benchtop planer. The support posts are made from Douglas fir that had been taken down by PG&E because they were a threat to some power lines. What a privilege to be able to build from scratch from readily available wood on my property. Just a bit of elbow grease a few tools and some determination.
