Happy Birthday 4/27/17 to Denzil Best. NYC born drummer/composer. He wrote Bemsha Swing with Monk! (also born 1917) wish i coulda been a fly on the wall for that collab. according to the wiki Bemsha comes from Bimshire a nickname for Barbados where his parents were from.
pops (Frank Perowsky) @frankjazzkey and I had a great time seeing and hearing @georgecolemanofficial the other night at @jazzcultural - awesome new club and cafe on 46th st. thanks and congrats to @spikewilner and co. !! George is sounding great! 91 years old just a few months younger than Frank, also still playing his butt off! whats up with these guys!? give me some of what they had! Frank told me he first heard George while they were jamming up at Count Basie's on 133rd and ACP, back in the early 60's before joining Miles...and before I was born...
